I don't want to change anything but I am just posting my thoughts :

Something bothering me about about the green alien of the header of the site.....why we auties/aspies are presented as aliens in planet Terra???
I mean why we have to show to NTs("normal" people) , that we are "aliens" .
I don't deny that I feel sometimes lost in this world , we all feel sometimes as aliens due to a natural mental deficity in communication/interacting with ppl , but after all we are humans not aliens from another planet.
OK I called myself Le Petit Prince which is an alien from a tiny planet .....and this because when I was child I felt like this ......but I am human too and I have to feel like this too , and I guess we have to "feel" like this and to believe in ourselves as HUMANS.

Why we have to show the people only the "weird/alien" side of us instead the human side??!

The alien archetype.

1. an outsider.
2. the feelings of being different.
3. alienation and or outcast

IT has become literally made into the alien, as if to promote these sub-conscious and conscious feelings.

^^ hmm .....I see and I really understand that and I really appreciate this symbol , it has a lot of meaning to me .
But don't u think that WP must work more to show also the human side of us?

I have no imagination of an alien side.

while I do like the alien, I do find him a bit of a put down... I mean we aren't so very alienistic. we are human like the rest of the world.

It seems to me that the intend was to focuss on people with AS being different and having theyr own identity.
I for one don't consider myself to be different from the the average person due to my AS, or from another planet.
Pittying myself for my small handicaps only holds me back imo.

I just consider myself as a individual person that happens to have AS.
That means i don't let AS control my life, and rarely actually think about having it.
I just try to persue my goal of building up a good life dispite some things being more difficult due to my AS.

I think the alien sign and the wrong planet name just gets people to pitty themselves and think theyr victems.
For some however it wil help them to feel good about themselves living with AS though.

People are not going to think that beings from another planet will look like us, hence the typical/non-typical alien from the WrongPlanet.
What I don't understand is the new desktop background depicting the alien holding some sort of chicken. What's with that? Makes no sense to me.
:?

The alien has been around for a long time (if you want to know how long, I'm sure Alex would be able to answer that) and I don't think WP would be the same way without him. Though it may not be the best symbol, it's what we have right now and I think changing it would upset a lot of people.

Isn't AS also referred to as "wrong planet syndrome?"

People with Autism and Asperger's don't just have a "human side", they are fully human and should be treated as such. (maybe a little bit more difficult to understand and deal with but, hey, everybody's got their issues)

The alien has been around since at least august 2004, and if I remember correctly, was a collaboration between alex and amy of AFF when she was an admin here.

EDIT: And at one point too, the alien had a girlfriend who was a reddish pink color.

I agree... I don't think a green alien does us justice. ADHD doesn't have a tazmanian devil as their mascot. I'd rather not see the alien. personally.

I prefer to think of the AS archetype being the D&D Elf or Half-Elf.

I rather like the alien. And I'm incredibly tired. I think I need food.
