So today I was giving one of our door greeters a lunch at work today and I was looking at the lists of school supplies we have for all the elementary schools. One particular caught my eye. It was a list for Lely Elementary School, and it had all the grades from pre-K through 2nd, but up in the top left it said this for w/e reason:

Autism
1 - change of clothes
1 - binder 2-inch with 3 rings
1 - package of glue sticks
1 - package of chubby pencils
1 - child's scissors
1- package of crayons
1- package of markers
1 - full size box of tissues
1 - container of baby wipes
1 - full-size bottle of hand sanitizer
1 - package of disinfecting wipes
Plastic bags - all sizes

Now, if someone would be kind enough to explain that to me, it'd be appreciated. Because to me it sounds like there's a whole other class for autistic kids who do nothing but crap themselves and pee on their hands while sneezing every five minutes. Something just seems so very wrong there.

idk about the rest, but the tissues are pretty much a standard school list item in my experience.

a way to keep the classroom stocked in case anyone actually needed one.

Everything but the change of clothes is pretty standard. That's because the schools don't have enough funding to get it for themselves. Teachers will often pay out of their own pocket for little extras.

Just seems odd to have that separate window for Autism, when most if not all of these items are on the rest of the lists.

I remember wetting my pants at school and other kids doing the same and we were to go to the nurse's office for a change of pants. It was always obvious to the other kids who had wet themselves because the pants the nurse gave were black sweatpants. Anyone who wore black sweat pants, even their own, was subject to teasing and ridicule.

The hand sanatiser is probably for the same reason as the tissues. So there is enough to go around if they are ever needed. When I was a kid, waterless hand sanatiser was unheard of but today kids are encouraged to wash their hands for every little thing.

Could they think of a better name to call the class? It sounds rather segregated to have a classroom called AUTISM.

As I recall, we had to have a change of clothes at school just in case of a fire or earthquake. Wouldn't want to be wearing dirty clothes after the school burned down and your belongings were lost and you got PTSD.

Apparently, they're required to bring Autism to school?

I think that stuff should be standard for every grade school kid. Why the "Autism" label?

It seems as though those people think, that the kids in the Autism Class, do nothing but crap and wet themselves, all day long.

Are the last five things on the list in italics because they are specific to the "Autism" list? This seems very strange to me. I thought all children were now required to take all of those items, other than the baby wipes and the change of clothing, to class by most schools.
Just to note, when I was in pre-K through 1st grade (I was never in special ed. or anything of the sort), I remember children wetting themselves and making various germy messes often enough. They weren't autistic, they were just kids doing what kids seem to do. :?

*craps himself*

I wouldn't put too much on a list when it's taken out of context in this way.

well in my opinion I believe that autism, label was un called for,
but pre k and the other younger grade they normally make you bring in a change of cloths
for your child special needs or not. but most likely these people probably meant
this kids with autism are not potty train this early so we have to put all this things on the list

instead of them just waiting to see who is potty train and who is not, cause most likely if someone child is still potty train they will already pack extra cloths.

Figured I'd italicize and bold stuff as it was done on the list itself.

This class could be for severely autistic children. But yeah, I agree, the name of the class is a little... strange. 'Autism'. It should be like, 'Autism Spectrum Disorders ______' or something.

That's pretty much, the impression that I got. So every kid on the spectrum, are soilers, who can't contain themselves, so every kid on the spectrum needs a change of clothing, and baby wipes. I was teased by a couple of my peers, being accused of being a soiler, even though I wasn't, back in those days. If anything, I was scared to eliminate the brown stuff, in the school washrooms, so I held it, until I got home. I couldn't understand, why I was accused of being a soiler, until my mum told me, that I was on the spectrum. That's the negative type of stereotype, about kids on the spectrum, is that every autistic child poops in their pants, and that's not the case, at all. I bet those men are in jail, while I'm cleaning parking lots.
