If I have hurt your feelings, please just let me know instead of holding a grudge, because it wasn't intentional and I probably won't even know what the grudge is about.

Why can't you see my brain doesn't have the connections to understand how what I say will effect you emotionally before I say it?

destroy your ego barriers. forget social conditioning, if only for a minute.

How about actually shutting up and listening to what those who are directly affected by ASDs have to say about the conditions, rather than assuming that Rain Man and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time are the be-all and end-all?

What does honesty bother you so much?

the human brain wants to avoid anxiety, so the human brain needs to escape from a world laced with anxiety-inducing realities. how does it do that? it operates in a fantasy world full of false and less stressful truths. i figure it's just wiring and a significant symptom of the drive to live, which seems to function differently for certain non-neurotypical individuals.

just my take on it though, it's an interesting subject.

Actually, I'm now torn between the content of my own post and that of duck's one.

I never fail to be bewildered by the refusal of NTs (well, the majority of NTs) to acknowledge that so many of the social trivialities they concern themselves with basically amount to nothing but a stupid game, made to seem substantial only by years of conditioning.

I'd say: Please only say something if you have something interesting to say.

I am being myself. I happen to be a mannish female who loves The Kinks and the 60s. Not every millenium girl wears tight fittet clothes, has long hair that's done up, plucks her eyebrows and wears a ton of makeup.

Get to know me before you judge me. Don't assume something about me because it's probably not true.

I was going to say something like "God, you people talk a lot"
Then I realised that the two students I've had with confirmed ASDs never shut up
and it was that that was a big pointer in my suspicions that they were autistic.
So yeah. There goes that idea.

I know, I know, I know: please don't push me and pressure me into doing things your way and constantly compromising for you, then get angry at me when I insist on maintaining a basic level of comfort for myself (such as requesting more than a day's notice to go out with you), and when I ask for compromise from you. It's unfair, a double standard, and hypocritical. I push myself extremely hard to please you people; giving a little in return surely can't be impossible?
