types of aspies
i was on aspies for freedom, terrible site because they are against treatment for this illness. but one person said i have more of the classic symptoms of aspergers.
so that got me thinking are there different types of aspies, and not just different severities of aspergers. not just high or low functioning. but different combinations of the symptoms.
like i have much of the schizoid like symptoms, the anti social ones, actually all of them.
"Patients can mentally simulate damaging scenarios in order to flatten negative effects, should one occur." i'm not sure what that means but it seems eerily familiar. is that being pessimistic on purpose? because i do that.
my sypmtoms * for the ones i am not 100% sure about.
noncompetitive
self-sufficient
lacking assertiveness
feeling inferior and an outsider in life
compliant
cynical
alternately feeling empty, robot-like, and full of omnipotent, vengeful fantasies
withdrawn
impervious to others' emotions
afraid of intimacy
exquisitely sensitive*
prefer solitary occupational and recreational activities
lack clarity of goals
tend to be lazy and indolent
quite creative and may make unique and original contributions
capable of passionate endurance in certain spheres of interest* only for my story, my games, and my compy.
asexual, sometimes celibate
free of romantic interests* except in my head and that is torture to me.
averse to sexual gossip and innuendo* until someone explains the innuendo or points it out i am clueless
tendency towards spiritual, mystical and para-psychological interests* i actually do take a huge interest in ghosts, demons, mythical beasts, almost anything fantasy related 'cpt aliens.
moral unevenness* not sure but morals are guidelines for life this might be warped logic but not sure.
engrossed in fantasy
vague and stilted speech* i'm pretty sure about this but still marking it.
autistic thinking
fluctuations between sharp contact with external reality and hyperreflectiveness about the self
autocentric use of language.
what do those mean they feel familiar but i can't place them. i think the bottom one means loves to swear but i don't know.
those are my schizod tendancies many of which i do on a regular basis.
but i am probably the ultimate antisocial being. even have the door to my room cracked for even 5 seconds gets to me, even if i'm the only one in the house. seeing all four walls and knowing they are sealed comforts me, even if i am not in my room i still have the door shut.
i can't find aspie symptoms.
so i'll just point out the things which nobody else could relate to.
the tv in my head. that's the best way to describe it, i can literally watch movies, animate objects, design things, walk through a room layout that is described to me, rotate things on an axis with 360 degrees of movement, read a story and watch it at the same time, picture characters in different colors or designs.
i can recreate voices, of individual characters, "everyone in my story has a unique voice" recreate sounds of just about anything, have the sound in mono, stereo, or surround sound.
multiple levels of frames per second, 60fps to 1fps.
and i cannot control the tv so along with the benefits, come the draw backs because anything i read, hear even with minimal description goes into the tv, whether i like it or not. so docter g espisodes can really make me sick, because i am recreating what she describes in my head against my will. and this goes for everything written or spoken.
detail levels can be up to hd quality.
and i am not joking about the tv, i swear i sometimes can feel it running up there. but it isn't just for my story but the story is the main source for images and audio. often times when i make a music video i am just copying what i created in my head the best i can on my compy
http://youtu.be/KazxrwEkXC0 <-- i hope that link works, this is the best example of a music video i copied from my head, i had this idea for 10+ years, but didn't know how to make it work. not the characters but the moving lines that make it look like an animated comic. and that is really the lines moving the white background is just a soild color so the lines stood out more.
the video isn't to the beat much at all, i was displaying the lines effect more, i synced when i could manage it. spoilers for birth by sleep if you never beat it.
http://youtu.be/hQsajor-f7M<--- another one but unlike the first it was made in a few days. i literally created this in my head as i was listening to the song play, it is almost excatly what my tv generated. the only things i couldn't do were the rotating screens in the scene called the room with the angled screens. and the running scene was suppose to be a tunnel type thing like in the intro of birth by sleep.
this is as close to a romantic video as i can get. and it looks more like a haunting or like he possessed her, harkness was added at the end [yes that is harkness] to show her 'waking up' because the rest of the video is what's going on in her head. my character was torch modded with android life mod. so i figure being she isn't human, [after i talked tactics with butch while playing on her file] <--- anyone who has done this knows what i am talking about. but basicly it seems like butch liked the female pc but never could say it lest it ruin his rep as a bully in the vault. an torch being a machine wouldn't understand what love is in any shape or form. and thus the result.
i'm not looking for help here i just like to rant.
Well, the treatment issue is a delicate one. I do remember comparing AFF and WP before joining and I just couldn't read some of the stuff on AFF because their avatars were so huge (and sometimes moving) and their signatures were full of distracting stuff. I found it weird that a subset of people who have so many sensory issues would use such a visually stimulating surrounding (then again, some of the ads here are pretty bad as well).
But enough for the totally off-topic rant.
Yes, there are different combinations of symptoms possible. If one would want to, I'm sure one would be able to give different names to all of them. But the issue here is that autism is a spectrum disorder. No two aspies are the same. It's not like a disease, where either the virus or bacteria is present or not, it's about the wiring of the brain. There are a number of variations possible, and if you observe a number of these in one person, we call it autism or Asperger's. I don't really see how one would go about differentiating between the various groups. About the only idea I could come up with is dividing the entire Aspie population into subgroups depending on their comorbids.

Cluster analysis might work, but I think we should be able to observe these various types of Aspie in real life as well. I don't really see different types of Aspies here, so I don't really think we'll see them in any kind of statistical analysis. The various characteristics that are absent do not seem to be correlated between people.

Read your post and I haven't been diagnosed recently.. my parents took me to a psych when I was a kid and I never learned what was wrong.... but some of what I feel matches the OP.
Put double quotes around your list to show that it was not my original idea.
Not trying to steal your ideas it just meshed so well with what is wrong with me.
If i am wrong I will delete it.

That's the sort of thing I expect to hear from the undiagnosed who do not actually have AS but want to believe they do in order to explain away other issues.
I am also anti-treatment, barring the presence of some mitigating factor like a chemical imbalance causing other problems. If AS is neurological and we're born with it, there's nothing to be gained from medicating yourself. It won't change the way your brain is constructed. AS isn't a mental illness - not something we HAVE, but who we ARE.

I don't really understand where you're going with this. She's not trying to explain away anything, she's just making an observation. According to her profile, she's diagnosed, too, so that's a non-issue as well.

when i mentioned treatment i mean something to help us manage ourselves better, like for me i would like something to help settle my racing though even just a little. i would like to understand my illness a bit more
i'm not for wiping out aspies or autistics as a whole, but aff wants to stop all treatment like stuff to help us cope with life a bit better.
From my observations, there are two main types of aspies. The quiet ones, and the loud ones.

I'm not sure that is precise either. In some situations, I'm extremely quiet. In other situations, I talk a lot. It really just depends on the situation and how comfortable I am. If I feel comfortable, I talk. If I feel uncomfortable, I just sit there.

I think that applies to just about everyone. But extroverted people tend to be naturally more comfortable in more situations than introverts, like me.
The same idea still applies.

yeah i am diagnosed, but yeah as i talked to different aspies, some had the same things i had, some things i did though no one understood like the internal tv, a few could understand it but many could not.
and i tend to be a bit more antisocial then others, i do know it is a spectrum illness and the effects it has are varied but i just like to analyze things.
i guess i would be an outcast aspie because of heavy anti social traits, or a fan-fiction aspie because of my heavy influence on fantasy. not making a diagnosis just having fun mostly.
i find it cool though that there is a wide variety of aspies, makes us special in a way.

I agree, but wouldn't that mean that there aren't quiet and loud Aspies? Aspies aren't always quiet or always loud, so it's not two types of Aspie you can distinguish.

As they say: if you've met one Aspie, you've met one Aspie. I know two Aspies (besides myself) and though we all have similar issues, as people we are just so different.

Well, yes and no. Some of us tend to be more loud than others. I'm not quiet all the time, but I usually am, and therefore I consider myself to be a quiet aspie.

I'm actually struggling where I'd put myself. Probably a loud Aspie, though you probably wouldn't think that if you dropped me in a room with 50 people I don't know.
