Does anyone have a medication that helps them get through the day? I am looking for either psychotropic medication or some herbal remedy you use. Absent that, perhaps there is something else that helps, like rigorous exercise or acupuncture. Please refrain from naming any substances illegal in your country.

I take venlafaxine XR every day for an associated panic disorder. It works well.

Excercising really helps, or even just sticking the headphones on and losing myself in my music (especially on a walk).

It used to be this:

But you know how it goes: you wake up in jail with a hangover and suddenly everyone thinks you're an alcoholic, and you have to quit. :?

Walking
Writing (sometimes I can exorcise a lot of demons that way...)
Caffeine (not used every day so I become habituated, but when I need energy or focus)
Positive Sensory Input (I've discovered some positive sensory input can help keep me on an even keel - although, since this usually means certain foods, and I'm trying to lose weight, I can only lean on it so much.)

Are you talking about Rx or over the counter?

Amitryptiline, for depression.

Post-burnout I've had some weird changes in terms of the effects of drugs. Alcohol gives me terrible insomnia, now, so I don't drink it anymore. And I never learned how to buy illegals drugs so things like MJ are out, too.

Oh, and there's magnesium. For whatever reason I find very relaxing, like 1-2 beers. I seem to have a stronger reaction to it than normal. The best form I've found is "magnesium oil," which passes through the skin.

I would totally agree with that, but it is mostly illegal in my country :( ........so I'll have to go with alcohol, though its never good to use that to get through the day, well maybe it is.

I don't trust most of the products put out by the pharmaceutical industry.
The few psych meds I have been on for depression produced unpleasant side effects.
If somebody can find a way to do without the garbage they peddle, I suggest they do it.
Even self-medication with alcohol is preferable to some of meds.

The kind of racket big pharma has going on with the FDA is downright criminal.
No, I don't trust them one bit!

I agree, generally, though I spent thousands of dollars and many years with herbs and exercise and biofeedback and this and that and ultimately it got down to being a life or death issue which simplified the considerations greatly. Hell, I spent thousands on many pharmaceuticals that were also intolerable or ineffective, for that matter. I'm just glad that after hanging on by my fingernails for almost 20 years that at least one thing works. If this class eventually fails me, I'm f***ed.

Seroquel works the best for me at doses that don't really affect dopamine. The sedative effect from the anti-histamine is what helps (it also takes away my allergies, funnily), in addition to some antiadrenergic effects (helps the physical symptoms of anxiety).

I find that Valium helps with the sensory stuff when it's bad, as well as getting overwhelmed, but that's not something you take constantly (it's like super booze).

California Rocket Fuel. How are you handling it? I was put on mirtazapine last year. Went from 15mg to 80mg in a few weeks. Started hardly sleeping at all. Gave up cold turkey months ago and still have trouble with waking after a couple of hours and can't get back to sleep. I was taking mine in the morning and the doctors couldn't believe I was doing it with 80mg considering how bloody tired it makes you. But it made me feel out of this world, literally. And that was way better than feeling like I was in it.

I take 30mg mirtazipine. At that dosage it is a powerful sedative and to be honest I don't think I'd be able to sleep without it. The only trouble is, now I find it difficult to wake up in the morning. If I forget to take a dose and have to take it in the morning instead, it knocks me out to the point where I can't get out of bed for about 2 hours.

I take Klonopin when my sensory issues get unbearable.

I'm prescribed adderall on and off since I was in middle school for ADD. I decided to go back on it again because I know it makes it easier for me to take initiative on tasks. If I don't take it I have a really hard time doing anything because my thoughts are so shattered, I just kind of get stuck in my own head, unable to comprehend anything I'm thinking about. I'm pretty sure I am physically dependent on it now. I can go with out taking it, but my body will feel I got hit by a train and I get irritated, tired..etc (these are all symptoms of stimulant withdrawal) Basically you don't want to be around me if I haven't taken my medicine.

Hands down the most beneficial thing for me has been cannabis. It's becoming legal in more and more states in the U.S. too, so I thought I'd mention it. Really helps me get a grip when I am feeling overwhelmed. If I could go back I would have never started taking the adderall. It was too good to be true for the first few months. Now it's just making things harder.
