I am not really sure. I have a speech issue which can sometimes be obnoxious (can't think of words I want to use) but usually isn't an issue. If I have to write a paper for class then I have a heard time starting it. But if it is just on a forum then I almost never have an issue of thinking of words I want to use, possibly the act of writing it, or visualize what I am "saying" makes it so that does not happen

speech is a more direct form of communication and anxiety puts blocks on me. Writing gives me more space and lets me think better and faster. Writing a paper for a class can be overwhelming and a hard thing to do if I am not into it.

I find it much easier to communicate through text. Anyone can chime in on any conversation and are given as much time as they went to think about what they want to say. Otherwise I'm expected to respond in seconds, and sometimes, more often than not, I end up saying something hurtful without having had the time to think of it. So in "real life" I prefer to be within groups of friends who don't usually have any serious debates, and like to let everyone have a turn to say what they want to before I just come up with something funny. Also a lot easier with family.

I'm much much better at communicating through writing rather than speech. So, in certain instances I find the only way that I can really get my point across is through writing. That said, I wouldn't necessarily say I prefer writing to speech, since they are both used for different situations (speech for face to face interactions and writing for stuff like this lol).

I would rather communicate via writing than speech, as I can more consistently and more reliably express my views, emotions, etc. with text. It takes a bit longer for me to type out what I want to say, but it will be more nearly accurate to what I want to say than anything I will actually say.

This, plus the advantage of not being constantly interrupted and losing my train of thought.

for me it depends on what the objective is. If my objective is to get an important point across then writing is the way to go for me, that is if I can take my time. If not then I often just give up right away.

I have no problem ordering food or telling the clerk at the fabric store how much fabric I want cut. What I have problems with is formulating speech for the thoughts in my head about something that is more complex. My oldest brother is a philosophical and logic type of person and has no problems speaking about anything. I would like to talk to him more but I can't make him understand the way my brain works. He gets impatient and asks more questions, which makes things worse for me.

If I need to initiate conversation I do find it easier to write it out. For example: I make all the copies and mail out all the monthly teaching CDs my minister does. This past week was the usual week for this. I don't like initiating phone calls so I texted her assistant to ask when the CD would be ready to work on.

The more comfortable I am with a person the easier it is for me to be verbal. I find if I am able to write what I want to say it's not taken out of context as much as when I verbalize it.

I find writing easier. In person I tend to continually analyze the other person/peoples' reactions and I will inevitably alter what I'm saying, sometimes even changing the entire meaning. I've gotten better at this but only sort of. When writing I simply don't have this problem. Also, what am I supposed to look at when talking to someone? Staring at someone the entire time is weird but what else is there to do, eh, socialization, what a pain

I have a block against writing papers but sometimes in certain circumstances I feel like I can't talk and would be more comfortable if I could type things out.

I prefer texting when it comes to arguing. If my wife and I are having a disagreement, it is a lot less likely to turn into a fight if we text each other. A couple of times we've gone to opposite ends of the house, she used her phone and I used my iPod... It was a lot more constructive.

This. Sometimes when I talk I can sound candid and crass, purely by accident. Most of the time I don't even know what to say in any given conversation unless the topic is something of interest to me although I do try my hardest and am sometimes good at it if the person I am talking to is a friend or someone I like/admire. I am much better at putting down my thoughts using words and often find myself not answering phone calls so I can end up having a text conversation instead. Having said all this I do admire people with oratory skills, I wish I had the confidence to be so orally articulate and verbose.
