Do you ever think compulsively while trying to sleep?

Sometimes when I'm trying to sleep (especially when I have a headache) my mind automaticaly starts trying to solve random confusing problems and I'm too tired to realize that the answers don't really matter. A lot of the time the questions don't make much sense, but my mind automatically tries to answer them anyways. It's really annoying. I barely slept at all last night. My mind wouldn't stop thinking. Does this ever happen to anyone else here? Does this ever happen to NTs?

Caffine or lots of tv prior to laying down? Or are you getting up over and over again to do small things? Or do you have a tv in your room. :P

I have this problem often but notice its usually due to stress caused throughout the day. I have to stay still, wait it out, and keep trying to remember its time to relax.

I had a hard day and my body temperature was low. I didn't get as much nutrition as I usually get and I spent a lot of time doing work on the computer.

I do I do! I actually find I think my best when I'm trying to sleep, goodness knows how many times I've solved some really difficult problem from my bed when I couldn't solve it for the life of me during the day lol. I actually enjoy thinking a lot before I go to bed...I just hate the sleeping less part. Sometimes I try to go to bed earlier just so I have time to wind down a bit first before I actually go to sleep.

I usually think my best while I'm lying in bed too. I often stay up past midnight thinking about things. It's just really annoying when I have a headache and I can't stop thinking about random things while I'm trying to sleep. It's also kind of annoying when my mind is trying to answer really complex questions relating to quantum mechanics and other things while I'm trying to sleep.

Sitting up in bed and trying to read a book often does the trick.

Your body does the opposite of what you're trying to make it do-so trying to stay awake to read a book will cause you to fall asleep- just like trying to sleep causes you to be alert.

Maybe you could sit up with a pad and pen and actually work on these quantum mechanics problems. Go with the flow.
Youll either fall asleep- or- find the key to the Universe!

Lol!

Pretty much every night. I really haven't found anything that can fix this other than vodka and wine, which is obviously not particularly something I can use every night.

Same here :( I've now just been staying up until I'm completely and utterly exhausted. Usually this comes around 4 AM :(

It's the average night for me. I can be awake for hours where there's so many thoughts running through my brain.

Though recently I just read a book or these forums just before sleeping, so my bed gets all warm and I get a bit more tired. It seems to work most of the time.

I often find myself trying to remember some insignificant detail about something or other. For instance, last night I found myself trying to remember Goku's Saiyan name (I finally remembered that it's Kakarot). Usually I just get up and look it up so I can try to get to sleep. Often doesn't work.

I remember, having this problem when I was a teen. I was put on clonindine for a while, then taken off. Haven't really had it since. If anything I have this problem now if I'm having a slow day at work and then it picks up later in the afternoon.

I used to do that, I just force my mind to focus one one thought, an imaginary candle or something. It doesn't take me long to fall asleep when I do that.

My mind always is racing with thoughts. It's better now that I'm on Anafranil for my OCD, but I still have a very difficult time most nights getting my brain to "turn off," unless I'm super tired and literally fall asleep instantly. I'm always thinking. My orbitalfrontal cortex is forever in hyperdrive. It certainly can get annoying.

Well with ADHD I tend to think, a lot. So I downed a bunch of Vodka to help me sleep, It's now almost FIVE in the morning and I got a pretty good nights rest. xD Now for a ton of water. Sometimes I have to use alcohol to sleep so I can actually calm my friggin' brain.
