Do you personally enjoy humorous things? Do most aspies dislike comedies/jokes? I'm very confused about this. I had one friend who was autistic and she seemed to like jokes, although very immature jokes like saying chicken but after someone says what. Also, didn't Dan Akroyd have Asperger's? Is this stereotype mostly accurate?

same as NT's... some do, some dont, though medication, bullying, suffering and pain can dull ones humour

it can come back, when conditions become conducive ie: healthy and happy, same as nt's...

Definitely not accurate, as I've been able to appreciate interacting with Aspies. This applies both in real life and on WrongPlanet. Having a struggle with jokes, banter and sarcasm myself, it's been quite hard for me to adapt to the fact many Aspies do have a sense of humour similar to NT's. I also have Aspie friends who seem obsessed with toilet humour, at least that qualifies as liking jokes of some sort.

My son likes nothing better than a poo joke, and he loves laughing. I suppose aspies have a reputation of being quite serious (just a guess)...

I don't know. I had someone tell me that having a sense of humor requires more theory of mind than an autistic person should be able to have. When I gave him links to clips of Gail Simone doing her comedy routine, he said that she probably didn't really have it.

Most of my preferred human is visual. Not in the sense of having to be pictures, but in the sense that I can picture what's happening. "Damn you, autocorrect" just about kills me because what I picture from the autocorrected texts is so absurd. On the other hand, when I watch sitcoms I don't really laugh much even if I enjoy them.

Some of Bill Cosby's older routines are hysterically funny to me because he makes a point of describing the scene in great detail, including surreal or even impossible elements.

Steven Wright is another good one for me.

I love humourous things. I don't care so much for horror films, I prefer comedies. I like to watch those comedy-type things you get in a series, but only British ones, no offense to Americans but I think I can relate to British humour more than American humour (films are different, although I still can relate a little better to British films but sometimes I find some British films are too serious and don't seem to have any humour at all).

Comedies do help me to come out of depression though.

As far as UK stand-up comedians go, Jack Dee always made me laugh.

I may find something funny, but usually I don't laugh so people don't know that I find something funny. This may be the case with some other people with aspergers.

I don't find most sitcoms funny i.e. Friends, seinfield but do do like some (big bang theory). I can't stand the blue collar commedy stuff but I love political commedy and satire. My sense of humor is different than most people I know but i certainly have one.

I like comedy but only certain types of comedy. I don't understand much of the comedy my parents and my brother like. I like older comedy like from the 70s, like El Chavo del Ocho.

I like comedy and jokes if they are funny....I probably would not find the chicken one funny, I mean I am more into more intelligent and/or dark humour. But yeah I like shows like metalocalypse, futurama, robot chicken and then a couple comedians I like are George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg even though they are both dead now, oh and I cant think of the name but that guy who does the puppets or whatever.......you know the dead terrorist, the drunk, the crazy purple dude and whichever other ones he has if anyone knows who I'm talking about.

I strongly dislike comedy; it's pointless since i don't understand facial expressions or tone of voice. But i do understand written humor, therefore telling me a joke makes absolutely no sense, but let me read it and i'm going to ROFL.

It never even occurred to me that comedy would have anything to do with facial expressions or tone of voice. In fact one reason I like a lot of british comedy is because it seems like there is less of the facial expressions and tone of voice and more random humour. But yeah when it comes to comedy its about the content of the joke or whatever to me.......nothing to do with facial expressions or tone of voice but what is being said basically.

Jeff Duhnam, you mean. Although, I personally think that guy's overrated. Same goes for Dane Cook, but I can't argue with George Carlin or Mitch Hedburg. Eddie Izzard makes me laugh my ass off, and so do Gallagher(and no, not because of his watermelon smashing; he's so much more than that, but nobody ever seems to remember his intelligent humor) and Brian Regan. NOBODY beats George Carlin though.

As for TV, I've always loved south park for its social commentary. Same goes for Futurama, and I'm recently starting to sorta rediscover King of the Hill. I guess I was too young to catch a lot of the things that are now making me laugh my ass off.

I've lately taken a rather belated liking to Father Ted and Black Books. I also have a longer-term love for Red Dwarf, Black Adder, and Monty Python. I am forgetting one.

I find British sitcoms more interesting than American, although I can't really say why.

Well I'd say Jeff Duhnam is a hell of a lot better than Dane Cook...and yeah George Carlin is pretty unbeatable.
