There was a time when I was an embarrassment to my younger sister of three years. That peroid lasted from the time I was fifteen, until I started College. At the tender age of fifteen, I was told that there was no future ofr me in the Job Force by my own Father. As a result of that, I became a Hippie, and that was in 1990, when it wasn't cool to be a Hippie in Canada. It started out with me wearing Bell Bottoms on the days that I didn't have to go to School, without rolling them up into those little cuffs. I would pretend to play the Electric Guitar whenever a good song came on the Radio. I equaled the word, Hippie with the United States, so I tried my darndest to disquize my Accent, in order to sound more North American. I started doing some wild, crazy Art. I wouldn't have anything to do with Job Hunting, because nobody would possibly want to hire an Autistic Hippie who had no future.
Those were the tatics that embarassed my NT Sister to no end. She didn't care about the stuff that I liked. She only wanted me to be Mainstream. She tried to tight-roll my jeans for me, once. I freaked out, because the tight rolls reminded me of the kids at my High School. anything that reminded me of the Teens at my school drove me into a hissy-fit. She didn't pull that trick on me, again, but she was still embarrassed about my lack of the Fashion Sense of the day. She was easily embarrassed whenever I would pretend to play the Electric Guitar. "Girls don't do that. Girls make themselves pretty by teasing their hair and putting on Make-up." My lack of desire to go out into the Society that was tainted by High School Trends, and my lack of motivation to clean the house, or look for a job embarrassed her. "You act like you're some kind of Hippie. Don't pretend to be what you're not. Why don't you just grow-up and stop feeling sorry for yourself." She made comments about the things about me that were none of her buisness. The bad part was that she was only thirteen and she was telling ME how to run my life.
Today I'm back to the way that I was before I was discouraged from ever having a good job or a future.
I am a constant embarrasment to all of my 4 NT siblings. They are incredibly "normal" in their ways of talking, subjects they like, music they like, how they act, what they do etc. And along came I, the wierdo in the family. I embarass them by not going to parties and not drinking and dressing wierd, and not greet their friends if I see any of them.
So that they can have someone to talk about. I mean me, nehind my back.
I was probably a bigger frustration than emarassment to my younger brother in elemetry and middle school. He's married and has a carrer as a firefighter now, so we get along pretty good but we still don't have much in common.
If I'm not being too intrusive (feel free to refuse to comment), I was wondering if you have a job now and why do you feel that you don't have any prospects for having a good job or future?
I am sometimes an embarassment/annoyance to my sister, but most of the time she and I get on very well and she finds me okay. She thinks that some of the things I do are sad/strange and finds me amusing.

I WOKE UP AND THEN I REALISED,
I WAS NOT WHAT I HAD ALWAYS TRIED TO EMULATE.
INSTEAD A SHADOW OF FORMER GLORY.
AND THEN I CRIED.
Oh yeah. I embarass my sister all the time.
She's over sensitive about things like that though.
I come out of the movies with bruises because she's been belting me when I laugh at the wrong time. I mean it's not like anyone can see anything!
In my opinion she can get the hell over her insecurities or not come out with me.
Seeing as I'm an only child, I don't embarass my siblings at all.
When I was younger (about 10-13) whenever I would go out public with a friend they would often tell me not to embarass them in front of their other friends. Thankfully my social skills have since improved and this doesn't happen anymore.

From Ghosthunter.....
I can see this point about one's relationship
with their other siblings. My sister was and
still is not close to me also. I was too strange
for her and I felt she was too practical in thought.
I now have a nephew and niece. My nephew
is outgoing, but my niece I wonder about.
She is silent and not expressive, and I know
my sister would not appreciate her distant
and only brother interfering with his distant
and interfering ideas.
She now owns a condo, is doing well in a job,
and gets along with the family in general,
I am on the other hand something you don't
discuss.
This not being intouch with my sibling, and
other family members has made me lose
contact on births, weddings, and other
things that are considered normal. Since I
am not normal, and they don't see me as one
to associatewith, Christmas is a foreign creature
to me.
Also, lets consider the parent. My dad was
a controlling person and my mother was
a neurotic. My sister inherited this controlling
trait and I the unuseral person trait.
I once tried to talk to my sister and we have
nothing to say, though I am her only brother.
I once tried to talk and express to my mother,
"I am your son, you are my mom" and she
is a distant to me as I am just a biological
birth to her, but not connected to her.
I am my sisters only brother, and that isn't
changing. I can only change myself, and
realize I do live on a lonely planet when it
comes to my sister(blood is not always thick)

I'm not working right now. Nobody ever gave me any insight on what my Strengths and Weaknesses are, so I have no idea about what type of job would be suited for me. I've been through two Work Experience programmes. Both times, I ended up doing mindless Factory Jobs while everybody else around, at both of the places that I've worked were doing the cool, challenging jobs. Both of the jobs that I ended up with were too easy and repetitive for me.
The second programme that I wnt through believed in the concept of Job Coaches. They gave a choice if I wanted a Job Coach when I went in for my screening, and I told them that I wasn't keen on having one. they gave me a choice and they ignored my decision. I also told them that I was in the Job Preperation course at kwantlen, with the rest of the High Functioning students. The perosn that I did my Screening with typed out a resume for me and she typed that I was in the Career Awareness programme with the Low Functioning students. Some of which would fit the criteria of bearing the Mentally ret*d Label, and I'm not Mentally ret*d. The people at the second place forced me to have a Job Coach, and I ended up having the person who had the lowest opinion of me out of the whole staff as a Job Coach. He had a very Military way of dealing with me, and he tried to take away my Democracy. I ended up in another Factory and I told the people at the second Work Experience place before they even started putting me on Work Experiences that I wasn't keen on being socially isolated, working in another Factory.
Going back to my Hippiehood, I gave up on being a Hippie about a week after I started College, because I had great dreams for the future. That's when I also decided that it was time for me to grow up and start being myself again. I rediscovered the joy that having my mind stuck in London, England 24/7 has given me, and that if I really wanted to feel High, all I had to do was think about London, instead of repeat a Mantra five times. I became serious about that one and only thing about me that I've worked on from Late 1993, through to the Summer of 1994, that I cut my hair and I allowed myself to buy a T-Shirt that had the Union Jack on it and gave myself permission to wear it as often as I wanted to. It was okay. I was allowed to be the person that I truly was, and still am, today. The Job Force might have destroyed my Morality, but College strengthened my real personality.
Sounds like the work development programs you were in were a production line for sending ret*ds to minimum wage, unskilled jobs.
I went through a vocational assesment program too, but my experience went better than yours. The people I worked with asked me about my level of education (a couple of college classes at the time) even though they admitted it wouldn't have much effect on the options they had available for my assesment. I still find that strange that even though you told them you graduated high school and had at least some college (any degree?) that it didn't raise a flag saying NOT ret*d.
I don't know how well you can emulate NT social skills, but that may be something to consider. If there aren't any other job placement programs in your area, you may need to find help with interview skills from a family friend and get a low paying job of your choice by yourself, maybe in an area of intrest, to buils a resume as well as job skills to compete with applicants in higher paying jobs.
