Sometimes. When I'm having a meltdown I try to explain what I want/need but it feels like no one listens to me.

I sometimes feel like a lot of people on here are ignoring me, but then I realize that I haven't really said anything that could be answered or questioned.

I think ever since I had a bit of a jump scare when I thought a Moderator deleted one of my Posts, I've been somewhat loathe to write longer Posts, and the shortness of Posts has really had a big impact on the quality of my writing. :(

Rest assured, if I have something to say I'll say it, though most of time I find that what I would have said has already been said by someone else (usually fnord) so I don't bother posting, otherwise it would just be a longer, subtler, more polite version of what they wrote. :|

I try and explain things to people the best i can, but sometimes I just cannot find the words to put my point across and I get ignored, or others assume things and it annoys me.

That said, I don't pay attention to what others say, as boredom kicks in and I get distracted by a shiny thing

^^I often get distracted by shiny things.
I stare off into space a lot, and I'm always thoughtful and careful about what I say, which often makes people think that I'm not paying attention or being slow.

Depends who the person is I guess. My friends, yeah they listen. Most people, don't seem to have too much of an issue. Parents? Not the greatest listeners. Doctors? Might as well just sit there and have a staring contest with each other because they are going to ignore every word I say verbally and in writing anyway.

I've noticed that other people seem to have trouble understanding what I say. They'll act like I said something different that would involve a lot of the same keywords, like the kind of mistake people might make if they were only partially paying attention. Sometimes this happens in writing, but it's mostly a problem verbally. They'll act like they understood (which is why it took me so long to notice this happens), and I'm not sure if they're deliberately faking understanding or if they mistakenly believe they understand. Although I only recognized it recently, in retrospect, I realize I've had this problem for a long time. It causes problems when discussing work-related info with colleagues, explaining my symptoms to a doctor, or communicating with almost any other business I need to use. My mom seems a bit oblivious too.

I'm not sure if people aren't listening, or if it's that they don't understand. I used to think it was the first. Then for a long time I thought it was the second.

Like when I go to the doctor, I have a lot of research information in my head, and I speak from all of that knowledge. But the doctor makes it plain s/he is only thinking along one narrow line of information (whatever their employer and schooling pushes). So they think I'm a nutcase, and I think they aren't true scientists.

So are they not listening? Or are they choosing to be less informed (or just stupid)?

They can't be assed to listen to all your words or read what you write other than diagonally. Even when they end up spending more time than if they'd cared to get it right in the first place, they simply can't bring themselves to show you the respect paying attention to you for real would imply, as your status isn't high enough to justify such a behavior.

It gets really frustrating when you're used to paying full attention to what they say, regardless of their status. Often they even interpret your body language as meaning you aren't paying attention, especially when they're repeating themselves for the hundredth time, believing it hasn't yet gotten through your thick skull.

I find that people don't pay attention to what I actually say, but instead to what they believe I am implying, although I usually am implying nothing. I usually directly state what I mean without room for confusion (so I think), yet somehow there is miscommunication.

A -- The hypotenuse squared equals the sum of the squares of the legs.

B -- No, a triangle is not a square! (Optional exclamation here about how very stupid A is for not realizing this basic fact.)

Squares and triangles don't have legs, either. Duh!

Can't win! I considered calling them catheti, but I'd be just asking to be snarkily dismissed as a smartass.

It's funny that, if the conversation happened in Spanish, the predictable joke would be sort of in the opposite direction: cateto means both 'cathetus' and 'hillbilly, yokel, country bumpkin'.

"Legs" is an appropriate term for Triangles.
