Since I was very young I've had this awful feeling in my eyes around bed time. The feeling is so uncomfortable and awful that I have to shut my eyes and poke my fingers in my eye sockets very hard to create some kind of pain to make the sensation go away. Does anyone know what this could be? I can get it during the day too I have to poke my eyes and get away from everything. Any ideas? It's something that's always been with me but never knew what it is.

I don't think this is related.....but if I don't take a shower during the day, my eyes get very stingy, and I have a had time keeping them open, or focusing.
Is the feeling in your eyes like "something in your eye?"

Well you might want to go to an eye doctor and get your eyes checked to make sure you haven't damaged them with regularly poking your eye sockets enough to cause pain. And perhaps they could also figure out what causes the feeling in the first place. And maybe help with that.

It's more like a sickly pain feeling going through all of my eyes, every part,it doesn't feel like there's something in it. It's exceptionally uncomfortable.

I've did it since I was a child. Your right I need to go see about it. The dr will likely not know what it is. No one seems too.
No never. It's something I've kept to myself until recently (bar my girlfriend and a few select friends). I suppose I was embarrassed by it. Only thing that sort of comes near and describes it is akathisia. I've never heard/read of anyone getting it in there eyes and also I've had it since I was tiny so meds can't be the reason. Could it be a sensory issue?
Interesting you said 'get away from everything'. Perhaps it's related to overload and by bedtime your system has simply had enough hence it requently occurring then? Justa hypothesis though
You might also have a focusing issue? Do you have regular eye check or wear glasses? I have astigmatism in both eyes which means they take longer to focus and I can imagine it would get quite sore if I didn't have corrective lenses! Bedtime is obviously going to be darker and so your eyes might be struggling to adjust?
Either way, definitely get yourself to an optometrist asap.

That's an interesting thought. It may be that. Akathisia is as close as I've gotten to it being. But never heard anyone getting it in there eyes. Il go see about it. With me having it since I was tiny(pretty much all my life) I didn't think it was an urgent issue.
When was the last time you had your eyes tested? You may simply need glasses.
My eye sight is really good. The feeling seems more psychological than physical. It seems similar to akathisia. I've never heard of anyone with this though,so I'm unsure what it is.

If you get your eyes checked out and there is nothing physically wrong, you may want to check out Irlene Syndrome. It might be that a sensory problem with visual input is straining your eyes all day and they are just plain tired at night. If it is Irlene syndrom, the solution is pretty simple - just colored lenses that reduce the strain on your visual system. But get them checked by a regular doctor first. I would hate to hear that you have a real visual-motor problem and you wasted time getting it treated because you were trying colored lenses instead.

I've heard of irlen. I suspect it may be something similar or sensory over load of some type. Or akathisia. I have real issues with the colour white. So much so I have to avoid doing art with the colour white or if I do it's a struggle and causes stress/fatigue etc. I generally don't like bright colours and my favourite colours are black with a small bit of red in it.
