I don't so much, but my girlfriend is that way, and I have another friend who can be quite the difficult dandy (so to speak) when he is hungry. It's especially problematic for them because their irritability does not lend itself well to actually DECIDING what to eat, so they continue to go hungry until something is forced on them =)

I usually "chalk it up" to low blood sugar, although I couldn't say why exactly that would effect some people so much more than others.

Yeah, I think it's probably low blood sugar. I don't get irritable when that happens, but I do start feeling unwell, and then actually don't feel like eating anything.

I remember my grandad telling me this was a condition refered to in the army during WW2 as 'The Knock' when soldiers were hungry and became aggressive.

Yes, I'm usually a pretty mild person; but when I get too hungry, watch out! I've been told that it's probably hypoglycemia. It seems to have gotten worse in the last couple of years. My kids know that if I start acting irrationally, they should offer me some food, like a wild animal. If I'm in a horrible mood, it's usually hunger or PMS.

When I get grumpy my mother and husband both immediately get me something to eat as a default. When I'm behaving like a b****, it's almost always because I'm hungry.

When I'm hungry, I can feel my stomach trying to digest the non-existant food. Its movements make me... nauseous. That nausea CAN lead to being bad-tempered, but not always.

Yes, it's like your stomach is trying to digest itself! most uncomfortable!

I get "the knock" all the time  I agree that it is hypoglycemia. I think thats the oppisite of diabetes. When I was little my mom used to pick me up from school witha snak in the car ready for me, as I would then be in abetter mood to deal with. This was very useful when we had an "issue" to deal with.

Hypoglycemia just means the state of having low blood sugar. It's not actually a disease or anything. If your blood sugar happens to be low at a particular moment, for whatever reason, then you are currently hypoglycemic.

People with diabetes can either have their blood sugar be too high or too low. Because their body either doesn't produce insulin (Type 1) or doesn't respond to it properly (Type 2), diabetics have to regulate their blood sugar themselves either by increasing their intake of sugar (if their blood sugar gets too low) or by injecting insulin (when it's too high), which can result in extremes at one end or the other.

I'm like that before I have my coffee in the morning. In fact, I joke around at work about this. When someone asks me something in the morning, I tell them: "give me ten minutes to drink my coffee; I'm not thinking straight at this moment."
