friday, microwave stopped working.

after school, went to a different home depot and wasted $120 on a new one.

it was only two blocks to the bus stop and two blocks from the bus stop to my house.

fifty pounds

struggled

arms and shoulders sore still sore. and it's monday. its been 72 hours. weak, slow, pathetic, useless, worthless.

either i don't know how to turn the microwave on or it doesn't work. when i plugged it in it said "fail". after reading the instructions, understood nothing. got nothing.

there is no way i could take it back on the bus. been rapidly getting much physically weaker and wasn't that strong to begin with.

have to wait for my sister to take it. if she chooses to. if she doesn't want to, i'll just lose the $120. "life" goes on....

I buy anything like that on-line.

The nearest store to me that would have one is 35 miles away in a town that I haven't even been in over the last six to nine months.

I don't consider microwaves to be all that useful, anyway. About the only thing that I might consider cooking in a microwave is bacon. Other than that, they are maybe useful for thawing out frozen foods.

I don't know how to cook and won't be able to eat chicken or broccoli or anything that requires cooking until the microwave works

Are you able to borrow a wagon or cart of some sort? That might make returning it easier.

If no stove to cook in, then there are several alternatives:

1) a one or two burner electric hot plate -- I've used these before when I didn't have a stove available. They aren't great but they do work. One of my brothers and his wife used one of these for four or five years.
2a) an electric skillet - Looking at the shopping on duckduckgo, Home Depot has one model for $21.72. We had an electric skillet on the farm when I was a kid and I used it fairly often.
2b) an electric wok - As an alternative to an electric skillet, you can get an electric wok.
3) an air fryer - I'm not that fond of these, but if you don't have an oven, they should work okay.
4) a multicooker - This is a pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, and several other things in one. The one I ordered last week that is to be delivered today was $112. You can cook an entire chicken in a larger one of these. One of my favorite things to cook in a pressure cooker is pulled pork -- brown country style pork ribs, coat liberally with a rib rub, put in pressure cooker with water and some liquid smoke, pressure cook for an hour, remove bones, shred with two forks, and you have a fantastic meal.
5) a toaster oven - Modern toaster ovens often have some oven features as well include the ability to bake.
6) an outside grill - Back in the 1960s, I knew several people who used hibachi grills.

Have you tried plugging the new one in elsewhere? If it's just that outlet that's bad, then you'll at least still have a working microwave.

Our huge 1980s one just died, & I'm looking into getting it repaired instead of buying a new one. They're all much shorter nowadays, and the smaller ones are often too narrow for our plates.

I understand the feelings! I hate having to return things in general, but it makes it so much more difficult not having a car.
I second the suggestion, can you buy a wagon or cart? Maybe measure the microwave before choosing a cart to make sure it will fit inside, but they can be so helpful.

Maybe you can look up the microwave model online and see what the error means. See if there is something you can do yourself. If there is a number for the manufacturer, they might be able to talk you through it. I know, this feels uncomfortable to me so I imagine it might be to you as well, but hopefully you can figure it out.

If you do end up stuck with a useless microwave, maybe you can find an alternative use for it until you figure it out or until your sister can come pick it up, like putting something in it as storage. Just keep it unplugged in case it all of a sudden starts working! Might be a silly idea, but sometimes I have found alternative uses for things that I regretted buying because they were not as useful as I hoped them to be or because they did not work.

Since the microwave displayed an error message I no longer think thelat your power outlet is having problems. Perhaps you could find a YouTube vid explaining how to set the microwave up & operate it. If you think that microwave is too complicated for you, I would recommend looking up microwaves on online sites like Amazon & reading reviews to get an idea how they operate & if they're complicated or not. Plus if you order online you shouldn't have to carry it home unless the sipping service won't leave it there when your not home.

Taking it back is the only way to go.

If you lived near me, I'd happily give you a lift. However, since you have bus service, it is obvious that you don't live anywhere near me.

If my sister refuses to take it back, I might just have to lose $120
