"Dry" Personality

Do people often describe you as having a dry, or overly serious, personality? Are you said to be task oriented, routine following, humorless, aloof, introverted, quiet, reserved, productive, efficient, methodical, almost mechanical or robotic, and distant? Are you slow to warm up to people? Are you tense and uncomfortable with the unfamiliar? Do you have little change in expression on your face or intonation in your voice? Do you often come across as apathetic, melancholic, or even just plain bored? Does the average person consider you to be a boring or nerdy person? Do you prefer highly technical or academic subjects over popular culture, watching sports, celebrity gossip, and television? When you are relaxed and joking around, is your sense of humor a bit strange to most people, relying on absurdity, ridiculous exaggeration, irony, satire, and the occasional sarcasm? Are you somewhat literal and not particularly imaginative most of the time? Do you have trouble feeling emotionally attached to other people? Does the internal world of your mind seem more real and pressing than the external world of work, education, commute, necessities, and the mysterious "others"?

When I am depressed I am very flat and dull but generally I am fairly animated.

People always tell me to stop being so serious...
I guess that means I come across as a bit of a control freak.

Yes to everything except the part about not being imaginative. I have a very active and strong imagination.

My problem is that I think I take myself too seriously.

Ah, searching for the reason behind the reason, isn't that what NTs do? I am quite like this, and much of it is closely associated with typical symptoms and associated features of Asperger's syndrome, so I was seeing how many other aspies here identified with these personality traits.

I overheard a coworker use the very word "dry" to describe me.

For me it averages out to sometimes.
