Whenever I am listening to some general message, I always think it's directed at me personally... anyone else like this?

I experience that same thing. Than the person says, "I'm joking!"

Yep, whenever my teacher leatures the class, I always take it extremely personally (To the point my teacher will tell me beforehand that she's talking about another group of students, not me)

I always take things way too personally. I wish I could be less sensitive, but... It's just the way I am, I guess.

not only do i take everything personally, if it is a generalization of any kind, i can even make it personal. and unfortunately, i do it all the time. i wish i was less sensitive too. :( i would give anything (well, not quite anything...) to be able to change this about me...

I always take things so seriously. While leads me to getting upset a lot... I'm quite sensitive.

I can't recall but I am sure it happens. I am often quick to misinterpret so the chances of me doing this is very high.

I often thought this was somewhat normal for children though? Like when a teacher or whatever would ask sternly "WHO DID THIS?!?" Everyone would get some sense of fear even if they had nothing to do with it.

All the time. The teacher could be complaining about something a student(s) did and has absolutely nothing to do with me, and I know it doesn't, but for some reason I still end up taking it personally when he/she is saying it.

Same problem, when there are critics toward the group I pull it to myself. And I feel bad. So I try to ignore that kind of messages. If it is important for myself, then most people explain it to me anyway.

Yep... I do.

Back at school, I used to think that the principal was talking directly to me when he got angry at assembly - come to think of it, often he was.

all the time.
If somebody says something bad(critical) I always take it literally and will harp over it in my head and harp and harp...usually irritating my poor family...

Me too. I'm sometimes too serious that others tell me to lighten up. As if gravity had something to do with it...just kidding. They mean to not take things so personally.

Yes, and badly. Regardless of what one says to me, and it can be undeserved and mean-spirited, I take it all in. Then I ruminate about it and feel....worthless. I hate that I am this and I try not too. I have to remind myself that those people often do not even know me, or have seriously misinterpreted. I wish I weren't so sensitive.

Yes. People have used this to their advantage to provoke a reaction in me.
