37 people voted "maybe"/"probably"/"definitely" for a European meet-up on Greentea's thread, and 12 have now voted for London on the "Where in Europe" poll, with preferences for the four months June, July, August, and September. :D

( NB. The central Southern France-meet-up will organise on another thread; this one is about London ).

 :?: When do people want to go to London for a WP gathering?

We need to decide on an approximate date before we can organise anything further. For the moment it looks like it would probably be a long weekend, in a relaxed small hotel/B&B or in a venue-for-hire if numbers are big enough, somewhere in the London area. Budget can be discussed once we know the dates.

I hope that this poll will cover all the most important options/considerations about date, clearly enough for everybody who is interested.

Please vote so we can think about accomodation numbers etc. Some of you might only come for a day/during the day, but we still need to know when you would be really able to make it. Thank you. :)

I do realise that it is quite improbable that the only week I am in London there could be this meet up, but I can try of course ...
:)

This summer I'm in London from the 6th of July till the 12 of July
(I have booked a room with my family already)

I voted for August.
I prefer the second half of August.
I prefer a quiet place *near* London, rather than *in* London.
(A one hour train ride from London would still be fine with me).

Me and OWA are interested in going. I'd say august. I'm going to have to save up my money though. :) Maybe there could be an ongoing list of who is going and who isn't?

I'm up for any weekend, preferably in September.

I'm in the States too and would consider a meetup in London. If I attend a meetup, it's either Pennsylvania for Autreat which is a horrendous drive for me....or booking a cheap roundtrip flight to London. I'd way rather go to London. I'm not voting in any polls....but the later the better for me...September [October best]. Would like to see London and I love flying. Money is also bit of an issue...depends on booking a cheap flight...which usually has to be done 6 months or more in advance..

If you would really prefer September you should vote for it. :) Who knows how many other people will go for it too?

Looks like August so far.

But I don't think we're going to hire a venue for 4 people!

I'm going to London for a weekend at some time, I dunno when that is, but if by some amazing twist of fate it was the same time, I MIGHT be allowed to go. Being 13 sucks so much.

I booked flights a few weeks ago for a trip to London in August, flying there on Tuesday 11th and home on Thursday 20th, though I'll probably not be in London for all of that time. I'll probably go on the Eurostar to Belgium for the first few days after arriving in London and spend the last few days of the holiday in London.

So far we have 10 people interested in an August or September, ( or thereabouts ), meet in London.

If more than 15-20 were interested in spending a weekend with other WP'ers, at around the same time, we could hire a venue, but a B&B/small hotel would probably be simpler to organise for anything smaller than that.

this is exciting- i love making plans!! !

i'd prefer july or early august. late august always seems to be wet, esp the bank hol weekend (i am always camping in gale force winds in august).

also, i have to pay college fees, and be at college, for september, and my head will be filled with that.

i'd prefer camping, as i dont like sleeping in weird beds or sharing a room, and im also poor. and i have a nice tent. i have a spare camping set i could lend someone (northface tent, marmot sleeping bag ive slept in just two nights).

the surrounding counties to london are all quite nice, with tube lines reaching out a long way to some places- (eg- aylesbury), so are easier to get to than navigating one's way about on trains if you dont know england too well.
accomodation in the uk is STAGGERINGLY expensive- though some of those country houses are cheap to rent out of the holiday season (pre mid june, after sept). hiring a small boarding school would be ideal.

i live in london, so i can be helpful with info on transport here, and out to the burbs.

:D Me too. Great. I think if we plan enough it could be an amazing event.

I think some campsites have a mixture of accommodation; pitches for tents and caravans, fixed caravans for hire, and small chalets to rent. Maybe you know of something like that in the home-counties close to London. That would be great because then people like me who have got rather fed up of tent-camping would be alright too. :D Or an organic/small farm which has tent camping and a barn and/or a few rooms?

That will be very useful, thank you.

I think that if we can keep the thread alive with suggestions, info on options, and getting to know each other, etc, more and more people will get interested. I hope so anyway!

I've never been to Europe, so I think it'd be exciting. Yeah, they money thing is bad. I would want to get a cheap flight, but I don't have the money at the moment, and it's a bit far away. I hope this thread will keep up during the year. :)
