soup slurping and food chewing

People are on me about doing this all the time. When my mom noticed me slurping my soup it finally occured to me why I was doing it. Somehow I felt weird/uncomfortable, perhaps about opening my mouth really wide and covering my mouth over the entire spoon just to get the soup in my mouth. Does anyone else feel this way? I guessed that this was just another Aspie perk but maybe not. Just wondering.

urgh, this annoys me SOO much.

I'm forever telling people to shut their mouths when they eat and not to slurp.

It sends my senses into overdrive until i'm about ready to hurt someone.

Indeed, mastication and digestive sounds are among the worst offenses for me to experience (hear). This sends me over the edge and truly interferes with my functioning skills. This is troubling to consider.

Hey, sticking the whole soup spoon in your mouth is just as bad as slurping. You should pour the soup into your mouth. I do this from the rear of the spoons side. Much more sophisticated. When I lived with my parents I would have to leave the room - I'd go into sensory overload... I was certain they were doing it to annoy me Monch monch monch monch. My dad was really bad, but mom was a close second.

thanks for the tip wooyay. Damn I guess I am the only one who does this since most of you guys seem to have a problem with hearing soup slurping then you do with trying to eat soup

I have somewhat of a tendency to slurp things; I rather like the sound and change the tone/amplitude of it for idle amusement. If I was trying to read a book and someone was chewing loudly or slurping, though, it would irk me.

Instead, commit a horrible breach of etiquette and use a teaspoon. If I use a soup spoon I slurp. They weren't made for human mouths...
I also crunch loudly even with my mouth shut. The secret here is to eat the noisy food while all the NTs are talking loudly about stuff you don't care about. Then they won't hear you, and you'll have a good excuse to avoid the conversation.

I hate certain food sounds. Listening to my stepdad smack when he eats burgers (he doesn't always smack, just when eating sandwiches) is awful and makes me gag.

I get into fights with my dad over this so I stay out of the room when he's eating or drinking,got to be one of the most irritating noises for my hearing at least,he eats with his mouth open,slurps and covers himself in his dinner that has fallen out of his mouth,that noise is so distinctive and disgusting.

Hmm. Odd. I've never really been bothered by the sound of someone chewing food or slurping, but I can't _stand_ when people willfully smack their lips. Never really figured out why. I also consider westerm etiquette rather silly, though I don't tend to slurp my food or chew loudly. As for digestive sounds, such as rumbling tummies, I ah... really like them, for reasons I shall not divulge here.

I always eat soup with a straw and a sppon--I drink the broth part with the straw and scoop up the noodles with the spoon. (I refuse to eat any soup but Campbell's chicken noodle.) I also refuse to eat with ANY spoon but a teaspoon; 'normal' spoons make my mouth hurt.

I also insist on eating food by sucking at it till most or all of the flavor is gone, THEN swallowing. If necessary I will chew it to release the flavor. Anyone else do this sort of thing?

Yeah...I am a big sluper too. I'm quite surprised how many people here are annoyed by it. Like toonaspie, I just figured it was something I did because of AS...guess it's just some personal quirk that has nothing to do with it.

I took an etiquette class for three years...and the method mentioned earlier about sipping soup from the side of the spoon is actually the accepted way to do it. However, to do this without slurping is beyond me *shrugs*

I slurp soup as well. I know it's a bad habit, but nobody seems to talk to me about it and tell me how annoying it is.
