Can Aspies sing?

Considering how difficult it is for me show emotion in my voice even when i'm speaking i guess its no surprise that i'm also a hopeless singer.

Show just a quick query. Can anyone here sing. I'm referring more to ballads which require a lot voice intonation change and expression of emotion.

I can sing and have been told I'm very good. I was even in an award winning choir. I do prefer singing in a group though rather than solo.

Singing is one of my major things.

I happen to not like many expressive emotional "pop"ballads...if that is what you mean, I find them to be very annoying...but I guess I could fake it if I absolutely HAD to.....I simply do not have the drive to attempt those kind of songs.

I have been singing all my life though.

I sing in a very technically perfect way--on pitch, with the right rhythm, the right sort of tone, good at switching from high to low and vice versa, good volume control; I can even harmonize intuitively with any tune... Basically, my voice does exactly what I want it to do; but there's no real art in it. It's like knowing exactly how to sketch what you see, without being able to create the composition of a picture in arrangement and color for good effect.

It makes me a very good choir member, but as a soloist I'm only good at songs that don't require a lot of interpretation.

No reason Aspies shouldn't be able to sing--there's those among us who are artistic. I just don't happen to be one of them.

my main problem is that I emulate a lot of other people's singing styles (mimic)

I am in a choir and have been learning to find my own voice over the past two years

I don't quite have perfect pitch but I am close

I do chorus like every year. Did several duets for church. I am a good singer.

i can sing. i don't really "show emotion" in my singing voice, but you know, even if i could that doesn't mean i'd sing well.

i have studied singing for 2 years and been in about 8 different choirs and a quartet. i have also studied voice/breathing/larynx/oral&nasal cavities extensively. when you understand how the larynx works, you don't need emotion to make it sound emotional. the voicebox is actually completely explainable by muscles, mucosa and air patterns etc, without having to refer to emotions at all. it's just that most people aren't used to feeling that part of their anatomy.

also if you sing the sorts of songs that have a backstory attached to it, you can just pretend you are the character who is singing it - such as "on my own" by eponine, les mis - the drama queen! you don't have to actually feel dramatically on your own and lonely and in love by virtue of yourself, you just have to copy eponine and pretend whatever has happened to her has happened to you.

could be that i have a relative strength in perceiving emotion in written media as well.

singing is FAR easier than conversation in my opinion. sometimes my fiance and i will exchange lines of songs we know instead of talking. "life is a musical" :)

I'm a good singer, a lot of people have told me that, although I lack any formal training. I'm definitely an impressionalist though.

I can sing, and I've been in an award-winning madrigal / acapella group. I had to drop out, though, because I kept getting hung up on technique and theory, rather than just singing.

Sing, yes. Public solo? Not likely. While others are singing? Only if I happen to be in the audience. Singing for no reason in the open? Sure. In the shower? No, no need to. All depends where. I believe I have a well tuned sense of pitch, tone, and rhythm. But all together, I would rather play an instrument, like the ocarina, accordion, vibraphone, or the tomato.
