Damn. Maybe if I think it hard enough, my uterus will shrivel and necrotize?

You can't force families to be more supportive. You can't force boyfriends/husbands/exes to be either. And, when you really look at it, you can't force women to gestate. Women have been aborting unwanted pregnancies since antiquity. As a practical matter, it's not realistic, and as an ethical matter, there is so much disagreement that legislating one group's morality to the detriment of the liberty of others is unethical in istelf, IMO.

I think this may be the most sensible thing that's been said in this thread yet.

I think it's painfully obvious to most of us that as subjective as morality in general is, the abortion issue really epitomizes the whole "opinions are like a-holes thing".

Most self-identified prolifers and prochoices always seem to claim "i'm prolife/prochoice BUT".....

BUT... I think abortion is ok in the case of incest and rape.

BUT....I think abortion is ok up until the 2nd trimester.

BUT...I think abortion is ok when the life of the mother is at stake.

BUT....I think Roe v. Wade was bad law and i'd like to see the issue returned to the states.

BUT...etc....ad infinitum

No matter what the policy on abortion is...you can rest assured that millions of people are going to think it's Malum in se.

This is a very difficult thought for me. I do feel that one must not have children if one is not healthy, however, the Church is against abortion, so it is not right, and I must not agree with it.

:) Yep, opinions sure are like a-holes...and for that reason shouldn't be treated as facts. See, I am pro-choice for two reasons (1) I don't believe personhood is possible without a live cerebral cortex and (2) even if the fetus is a person, we don't force anyone to donate even so much as a pint of blood or a few tablespoons of bone marrow, EVEN to one's own child and EVEN if the child will die without it. #1 argues for abortion on demand until the end of the first trimester, and #2 argues for allowing abortion until viability, when the fetus can be delivered live and no longer has an obligatory dependence on the bodily resources of another. Despite it coming out of the wrong reasoning, RvW has elegantly addressed the issues I find important in this issue and is the right decision for the wrong reasons. If someone has a religious belief that differs from my reasoning above, that is fine, but they should not be allowed to impose their religious POV on those who don't agree.

I know just how you feel. It's wrong to say it, but life does suck.
