Who is against a cure for Aspergers?

I'm just curious if my hypothesis holds true that opposition to the possibility of Aspergers cure/treatment is primarily a male phenomenon, based on studies which show that females with HFA/Aspergers try harder to cope and, as a whole, develop better coping strategies for "fitting in" with NT expectations than do males who had the same level of functionality as children. My theory is that high-functioning autistic women, as a whole, have a greater desire to change themselves than do autistic men, as a whole, and so would be more likely to fall into the "curebie" category.
I'm separating out transsexuals from their identified gender just because they have had experience living as another gender and so may have adopted attitudes from that gender, thus throwing off the results.
Disclosure: I am an HFA male who is strongly in favor of a cure -- and of making an effort to fit into NT society generally.

It can no more be cured than blacks can be cured of black skin. A cure isnt the my issue. My issue is in utero genetic tests for autism. You can bet that if they are developed, abortion will become a favored method of murdering us.

I would rather have a cure for social anxiety and depression.
Exactly!
I like this comparison: being an aspie is like being redhead. It is not a disease. Those stupid little jerks at school that laugh because you're different - they need to change. Not you, even if you are tempted to use coloring shampoo to gain acceptance.
But if you are redhead, it is likely that you get sunburn in conditions other people don't even tan. That could need treatment. You need more sunscreen than others. Coloring your hair wouldn't change this.
If there was a social "sunscreen" protecting me from harm, I would be glad to use it. Without really rewiring by brain to fit some "norms".
Magz, this is beautiful, and I agree. A "social sunscreen", something that would allow me to interact with people without being horrendously awkward or inviting ridicule, would be awesome. Or maybe a translation program that could run in my brain, decoding NT into AS and back. I think a lot of us already have "masks" we put up at work, or at church, or even just around unaccepting family/friends. But I'm wired the way I'm wired, and in some ways, that's great, and I don't want to lose it. There are downsides, and I'm not averse to "treatments" like social skills training that would make life easier, but I don't need to be "fixed", because I'm not broken - I'm just running Linux in a PC world.
BettaPonic, I understand where you're coming from and I agree with you, too. A cure or properly effective treatment for the anxiety and depression that go along with being wired this way would be a Godsend. There are treatments that work, to some extent, if you're willing to go through what it takes to find the right meds, right dose, right therapist, and can pay for all that as well, and can handle the side effects (because there's always side effects). Changing the neurology to make us think like NTs might fix all of that, but it might not - lots of NTs have social anxiety and depression, too. All that being said, I wish you lots of peace and contentment, and anxiety-free days.

I've lived my entire life with aspergers. It's an intrinsic part of my personality.
If it was suddenly "cured", then what would I be? I'd be a completely different person...
No no no, I can't have that. It took me a long time (I'm 30, male) to get to grips with having asperger's syndrome.
I don't like change, really, so I think I'll just stick with this setup.
Thanks, though.
Overuse of commas? Possibly...
