Wow! Ageist much! As if "old" people don't deserve to communicate on the same issues that everyone else has and that their issues are no less important. Give me a break!

Why should we show respect to old people?

Anyone can get old, all you have to do is live long enough

Can't argue with that... :)

It would benefit old people and young people alike to practice good forum etiquette and refrain from generating quote pyramids that are not needed and are annoying to the eyes of other users. This applies to all threads.

You can edit a quote, you know. Rather than quoting the whole pyramid YET AGAIN, it is actually possible to delete the parts that have already been quoted, and single out the latest comment you wish to reply to. Who knew? :)

That's my rant over for the day.... ;)

Hi Codyrules37,

Old people are like over 90. 30 isn't old. Maybe people my age are "mature" (well, some people over 30 behave more like children than children).

I guess that when you're 18 anyone over 24 is old. But then when you get older you realize that age is unimportant, and that a 50 year old might have a 50 year old body but inside they are 20, and a 90 year old may not be able to run about but inside they may be 40.

I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

Wow, you really are ignorant. And I am not saying that to be mean, it's just the fact if you can ask a question like that. And if that is you in your avatar you are very cute, just very ignorant. I hope someone asks you the same question 60 years from now. But I'm not even going to dignify the question with an answer. You will just have to figure it out once you grow up. Again, not trying to be mean so please don't take it that way but if you ask a question like that you kind of walked into it.

Relax, just quoting Groucho Marx. Not seriously being mean. I respect my elders, especially those who have passed on and still live in my memory and family's memory.

I was raised by Grandparents
Thank you for clarifying. I have regained my respect for you. You must remember though that this is wrong planet so unless you put your quote in quotation marks and say who it is from and even state your intentions most of us will take you literally. But I am glad you cleared that up. And I am very glad to hear that you respect your elders. That is a good thing. I am sure your grandparents would be very proud of you.

It was my mistake. I forget that I'm the only one who can quote Groucho Marx from his birth to death (REALLY wish there was a Groucho smilie)

Aww, no worries. That is really awesome that you can do that. Very cool! :D Tell you what, if anyone can find a Groucho Marx smiley, it would be AuntBlabby. He is the king of smilies, You should see the long list he sent me of cute smilies, I'll bet he could find one for you. :D

I don't really get the bomber pyramid pic Molly - what are you saying?

When I was OPs age, I considered that when I get to be the age that I am now, I would be so old and past it that it would probably be sensible to do away with myself.

As I consider my arthritic joints, messed up digestive tract, rheumy muscles, general fatigue and lack of anything that could be reasonably considered having a life, it appears I was not far off the mark in my youthful projections.

I think that WP is full of old people because we are too old to party so have nothing better to do with our time than natter with complete strangers on the internet. And how grateful we are for it too. I remember the days before the internet and it was horrible. If you didn't know about something, you had no way of finding out about it without risking severe embarrassment, ridicule and misinformation by whomever was the nearest available person to ask. Those were dark days my son, dark days indeed.

I'll be 65 next week, and I'm back here because my life only began to make sense after finding AS when I was 56. I certainly threw out large chunks of "obsolete" knowledge when I was young, but there is no reason to expect that all good ideas arise from a small base of experience.
I'm looking for an audience for what I've learned about the "unwritten" rules, but there is a certain amount of tedium involved in "getting it" the intellectual way.
Perhaps the shortest example is that when I was young, I thought that good manners were just arbitrary impositions. Now I see them as good tools for dealing with the unknown state of mind of people we approach. They may not be sincere, but they still help keep things moving smoothly.
I really wish someone had taken the time to explain things like that to me when I was young - it took a lot of hard experience to work out.

I'm saying "Destroy the Pyramids!" :D

When people quote people who quote people who quote people who quote people who quote people, the result is a huge mass of quoted text known as a "quote pyramid." If the exchange they are quoting has already been quoted umpteen times on the same page, we really don't need to read it all over again just because they want to add something to the bottom of it. It's kind of annoying, and takes up extra space on the forum.

So I had asked people not to do make quote pyramids, and then somebody went ahead and did it again straight away. *face palm*

Rather than ranting about it for a second time, I posted a humourous picture, to turn the issue into a joke while (hopefully) getting my point across.

Example of how to make a needless quote pyramid by replying without bothering to delete all irrelevant text:

Lets calculate: Internet becoming general mass-media during 1995-2000. Difference of 2013 and 1995 = 18 years...

Whats exactly lets you think, that we were not able to use something, that was mostly built the way its actually is now, when we were teens and young adults? ^^ And we did not have tools for everything then, we had to still learn the basic rules of webpage design ourselves, by creating them with HTML. ^^

Thats as if I would think that actual teenagers were not able to use smartphone apps. ^^

About the youngies, there is a special kids and adolescent forum here, as well as teenie posters in the general forums. The amount is simply smaller because here are people from all ages, while being teenie is only about a very limited time. So when there are posters from all ages from about 14 - 65 its statistical very likely that the ones with age 14-19 are a smaller group. Specially when its not about an forum that is not about an "actual" topic as new released films or other stuff, that might more interest a younger audience, but a general topic that affects people from all ages.

This.

And all the kids are playing video games instead of learning about Asperger's.

The OP probably hunts down my avatars and presumes that I'm 65.

But age doesn't matter, Baby! :nerdy:

be quite and maybe ya learn something, learn from your elders- don't burn them. unless they are complete idiots....but these are not so mind your elders.

heard some garbage on the news....some dumb young kid talkin or textin on his phone got run over... ya real smart ya kids are nowadays.

grow up, age is just a number but knowledge comes with time- most kids think they know the world but truth is only seen parts of it couldn't possibly know it.

did you wake up and know everything in the world? know you found things out through time and age....you will never know everything no matter your age.
