I'll walk around the mall and the courthouse area and subsequently stare into space just because I can. I even go to the top of parking garages and stare at the college campus in the distance and I've been doing that for nearly 6 years.

I used to do something very similar to this when I got a job on the 28th floor of a building, in a room with floor to ceiling walls. I could look out of those windows for hours.

Go as far as you can see. When you get there, you will see farther.

Me too. I work in the city - we've got nice big windows and I can see a long way - for hours.

Actually, this is a known problem with Aspies:

Yeah I know that one :) Although it doesn't need to be a window. I can stare at the sea for hours, too. Or happily watch a sunset or a storm. Our bedroom window looks out over a valley and faces south west, so if there's a good sunset we get a spectacular view of it.

Sounds lovely! :)

Just out of interest, do you make pictures out of the clouds? Does anyone here or am I the only one?

Not so much now, but I used to a lot when I was younger. Now I'm a bit obsessed with taking pictures of skies, rather than seeing pictures in them - to the extent that a few people have suggested I make calendars of my photos.

I get my daily dose of staring out of a window on the bus.

It's just an awesome yet calming and soothing feeling to just stare out over the distance and ponder and even reminisce. Made better when you figure that next to no one will be up there to bother you.

One of the coolest things I saw up in my building was watching a cold front blow through. My area faced northwest, which is the direction fronts come from here in Texas. A gray-blue shelf of clouds moved across the city (it was Houston btw), and as it would go over a certain area, you could see a wall of rain, and street lights would kick on in that area.

Re: Needing to look out the window -- In my top 5 (top 3?) most relaxing, calming experiences was oddly enough when my mother was in the hospital for stomach problems. I was staying overnight with her on a pullout bed. Mom was asleep one night, and it was dark in the room -- no lights, no TV, door was closed to the hallway. I reclined on the bed and watched the silent traffic out of the window -- I was on the 4th floor -- for probably two hours. I've never been so relaxed in my life. It was so effective it should be used as therapy for anxiety.
