Why do you say that? I know it's kind of a cliche expression, but it's true. Also, I wouldn't consider anyone in this thread to be a "ret*d monkey", we all have opinions and they're all equally valid.

I don't have a problem with the expression itself, in some cases it can be true. I have a problem with how you seemed to apply it to people who manage to enjoy life.

I think this guy put it well:

As I already said it can be true in some cases, but I don't really like how you applied it here.

I might be an outlier in that I would not do this, given the chance. If anything, I'd like to know even more; happiness be damned.

I don't know that I would either - I'm not really sure either way, not that it makes any difference anyway - I would be happier, true that, but sometimes intellectual curiosity or the thirst for knowledge are stronger. It's a hard choice and often it's made for you before you understand it

...Just to whine/cry  , my attempts at going back to college are dissolving in my face :( .

I can see how the other people can feel excluded.

I've felt that way, too, when people were discussing esoteric subjects.

My solution: try to learn the esoteric subject so you can have more of a voice.

You want to hear something funny? I went back to college when I was 36 because I thought the Assistant District Attorneys where I work looked down on me because I was just a clerk.

If you stay in the room a while, and settle in, maybe you could go to, at least, adult education at San Francisco City College.

One day, you should take a sample GED, and see how you would do.

If you do well, you might as well take the test, and forget about high school records.

By the way: how long will you be able to stay in that room? Is there a time limit there?

...Last question: Temporary .
I still wonder about my eyes , and the light dazzlement .
And what about the actually good SATs/National Merits I had then ?
Would I ever be able to match them ?
And , right , a college would really pay attention to a " fake " GED<sob> .

But they DO pay attention to the GED. Very much so. That's all you need to get admitted to Community College.

It's the military that requires a high school diploma.

As for the "dazzlement," just get window shades. Or even a large piece of cardboard or something.

I would try to keep this room if I were you. It's the best situation you've been in for the past two years.

It's much better to have a stable address.

...I don't think they'd be real impressed by " they wouldn't send me my records , so..." .
How do I keep cardboard up ? The shutters didn't help ~ or wearing a sleep mask , AND a blankie over my eyes ! :(

Why don't you try to take the GED? That would be indisputable evidence to a college. They have to accept you if you have a GED.

If you're in some kind of GED program, you might get access to a library again.

I don't know what your windows look like--but if you have a large window sill, you could put a piece of cardboard there.

...Just accept what Greeley did to me ?
And , again , it would be a " fake GED " .
And...I doubt I'd get as good grades now  !
+ I'm crippled , no phone , etc. ~ I do this how :( ?

I don't get it. ASS-P. Why would the GED be "fake." It's real. It's a high school equivalency diploma.

You might have to move on from this Greeley thing. I understand you're not too thrilled with it.

I got into a good school with a GED. They're fine with it, really.
