Where are you originally from?....outta curiosity....

I wonder how I musta appeared to everyone....
....And did i seem like the most neurotypical one of the whole bunch 8O?

(In the pics, I am the short pudgy brunette in the green shirt with the stars)..if that was one of the questions....my avatar is me...but it is me...likesay 13 or so years ago...

um...um...um...

There is lotsa crazy forresty places in Houston. There is the whole Buffalo Bayou that has tons of trails....I have a very close friend who is a renegade rafter/camper...He is from Illinois

...I just got back from bike riding all over the crazy trails through the woods with my bicycle gang....in the rain.... :P We meet up every Tuesday night....

There is lots of bad stuff and concrete and gentrification...but there is also lotsa nice green space...like the Arboredum and the Allen Parkway trail and the memorial trail....etc....

The Menil has parks with big sculptures on the outside.

On the inside there are some sculptures and the artwork encompasses many genres...there is ancient art and african art...there is a room full of objects that were owned at one time by various surrealists...they have one of the largest private surrealist collections in the united states...I think.....much of it is on permenant display...and then they have the changing exhibits....

At the resturaunt I was cold...and the music was loud and I was trying to focus between the two sides of the table and there were large parts of time when I couldn;t understand what anyone was saying....and...and....and....um......I spilled water all over Flipmode (meet my special "Aspie?" power....and um.....I have a hard time with waiters......and eating in groups.....

la la la

I'm "from" here originally...grew up here (Pasadena), but was always busy in my youth, so I never had the opportunity to enjoy the area. When I was 18, I moved to TN (Murfreesboro for a year and Chattanooga for 3 years) which was so different than here. I guess you can say it was my first taste of freedom...hmmm..I suppose. There were mountains and trails and trees sprouting from every earthly pore. When I wasn't working, I spent a lot of my time outdoors. And then we have here...I was so active in TN and then forced to move back to the place of my worst memories. I can't even step outside and go for a walk, because the city seems not to find neccesity in providing sidewalks down one of the busiest streets in the area. Thanks, Pasadena!

I sound so grumpy. I'm just irritated because I used to be healthy and fit, walking and hiking at least 5 miles a day, and here I'm just pent up indoors popping on the pudge. Oooo to the bitterness. I don't like how you have to go out of your way here to "enjoy the outdoors," but then again, I want to move to L.A. which *L* will be a lot worse, so I need to get used to it. Maybe if I actually lived IN Houston, or at least on the busline, I would feel better.

la la la (see, I sing, too) Anyway, I'm clumsy, as well. Look how much we have in common!...rather than spilling water on someone else, I would probably drench myself. I tend to bump into things, eventhough I'm always watching where I'm going. How the hell is THAT possible? Natural comic relief. And I dig your place. Do you live there? (I ask being that it has been given the name "SuperHappyFunLand" and the paint on the walls makes me wonder if you use it to hold activities or as a mini-movie house --in one picture there appeared to be seats arranged stadium style?)

Oh yeah, So, I observed some of your Urban Art Wall Mural(ing)...the guy eating his leg, and it brought back a recent dream I had where I was carving my lower leg and foot like a Christmas turkey. *chomp* That's some randomness for you, just wanted to share how the photo of the art vividly reguritated my autocannibalistic dream. *looks around* yeah.

BTW, my name is Celeste. I'm dropping it early incase I follow the trend and forget introduction inperson, but I do answer to "Hey, You!" which makes me think it would be best if I were Chinese. And no, I don't look like my avatar...to my dismay. But then again, I guess it would resemble me if I were a cartoon, Asian, and HOTT. :x Look! THAT'S MY ASIAN FACE!

ooooo a bicycle gang! do you guys wear spiked leather jackets and swing heavy chainlinks to intimidate the deer? schweet! I wanna be a Jr. Hell's Angel, too!...complete with training wheels...no, a low-rider trike with bells. Hell yeah!

when it rains is the best time to be outside, especially in the summer; you get a shower that immediately washes away the sweat you work up. It saves time when you get home! :x There's my Asian face of concentration again!

I love science museums! We should definitely go to one sometime.

The potluck sounds like a good idea too. And sometime we can go to some all-you-can-eat place where the buffet goes on all day and have like 2 or 3 meals for the price of 1; is there any place like that?

awww. i'm jack, aka the father of that bulge in purple-dressed-girl (aka ana54). and i live in channelview, and, as i mentioned before, i'd be happy to pick up any pasadena/deer park people.

the museum idea sounds fun. i've never heard of the one you guys're talking about. but i'm up for any museum. kate (ana54) and i were going to go to the natural history museum today but didn't out of exhaustion.

That was a fairly specific reason I felt edgy about the idea of hitting this meetup. I never eat-out. I particularly don't like the crowds, but I also feel that eating is for eating, not conversation, which makes communicating especially awkward...

you would have felt at home with me and stephaniecatherine (is your real name stephanie? i still think that's awesomely telling that none of us thought to do introductions.) at the end of the table, occasionally chatting with each other about how we couldn't hear everyone else over the din of the restaurant (which wasn't crowded at all) and the music on the speakers, and how very familiar this situation was, to be in a social happening and not even being able to distinguish the noise of the group from the background noise. still, it didn't seem awkward at all with that crowd. and kate and i might end up eating sandwiches at home before the next outing.

ok wow...there has been a lot of posts.

 yes my real name is stephanie :o

nothing was too terribly awkward. i think for awhile at the end of the table i felt bad because i wasn't saying anything to you or kate ...and it is particularly hard for my to make eye contact with guys....so it felt, at times, a little wierd to look to my right 8O  ....it was definately a familiar situation....but less uncomfortable because everyone had similar, essential quirky-ness.....and an abundance of it...whether that meant not talking, to spilling water, making mustard pee, or whathaveyou. it was very enjoyable.

there's a natural history museum? ..?? where is that? or is it the same as the science museum? or have i really missed seeing that....there's no way i'd miss that.....ummm....so? natural history museum?

i'm deinfately up for science museum stuff (or natural history!!) .....i like art museums....but despite my love of art....for the most part i always tend to be a bit more ready to run out of the art museums......i ((LOVE)) the room in the Menil that has that collection of wierd things some random surrealist had.....i could stay in there the whole time probably. .....and it would still be awesome to go to the butterfly pyramid thingy sometime. sometimes there are very neat exhibits...like one time they had the bodyworks one...which i went to...and they had real human cadavers that had been preserved and put into the odd poses and such. there was even a table of poker player dead people! and a horse! and lots of preserved/diseased organs! ....another time there was an exhibit of froggies...two exhibits of froggies actually...and a reptile exhibit...........not sure what's going on now...something with rocks i think..

i wish i could remember the other posts....but i can't...i thought i could......but i can't..yep...actually..oh yeh! for the Pasadena person (Celeste!) I lived in Pasadena from (i think) late 06-just this past June...........i lived in houston before that but i went and lived with my boyfriend there....I HATE Pasadena and I totally feel your bitterness....living there rots your insides and makes you wonder if going for a run/walk outside would really be beneficial or if the pollution would be more detrimental than the exercise would make up for....i understand. ....and i also understand the violence factor. my b/f worked at a gamestop there that was robbed multiple times at gun point, the last time before he quit he was assaulted...that was actually south houston....but close enough....in pasadena though, it was a normal spectacle to see cops with guns pulled behind their car doors yelling at gun-wielding criminals.

good place to get out of....don't think L.A. will provide less violence....but there will be more to look forward too--- probably.

anywho..

i start classes again soon and working in close quarters to my mom is completely draining me lately......and the thought of school, again, brings much anxiety.............soo..i'm just wondering when the next get together may be? maybe not this weekend, but the next? that'd be better..... i have a lot of stuff i still haven't done ...mainly because of procrastination....i actually am only just going to be registering my classes to get my schedule in order to get my id tomorrow....aah!! then i have to get books and take like a infinite number of deep breaths before i go crazy................i'm also meeting soon with my tattoo artist type guy to talk about mideas nstuff for my upcoming new ink-ing....which i'm both nervous and excited about..he's pretty nice though..

someone said sunday was a good day for the next get together....that sounds good...no work or school on sundays.

ok...well...i'll hush now....stupid program at work has to be rebooted so i have nothing else to do though....but i don't have anything else to say...

ummm...hmmm....we should have an aspie-vacation fund raiser....and raise money to go to the museum of medical anomalies in pennsyvania.....or wherever..camping in some state park.

soon, sometime in th winter....there is a park somewhere in Texas (forgot the name) where you can watch hunhdreds (perhaps thousands) of hawks, eagles and falcons migrate....huge flocks flying in.....very neat to watch ....i went once when i was very young and plan on going this winter... again in the spring there is yet another park (i think in aransas?) where you can see another migration of birds....lots of interesting ones mostly coming from the southern hemisphere...so they can be fairly colorful 8O ...kinda neat (i think it's incredible...i don't know anyone elses view on birds....but yeah...i'm a fan...they're like celebrities to me..)

to bad octopodes/octopi/octopuses can't fly...that'd be kinda scary though....ndand they'd probably eat all the birds and then i'd be sad..

wow....well...really. i'm through now. 8O :bounce:

^s^

edit: ...i hate typos........... :!: 8O

I just "googled" SuperHappyFunLand. I apologize for my ignorance in not knowing of the place, but I really don't know anything other than a few museums in the area. I couldn't even name 5 clubs/bars to save my life; haven't been active in this city, at all. So, excuse my stupidity in being unaware.

i didn't even notice a lack of eye contact or mustard pee. i spent a lot of time looking out the window. todai was across the way and i wondered if they had good sushi, assumed it was pretty expensive, wondered how hard it would be to sneak in and have the buffet, and several times thought of a quote from the excellent 'Repo Man' - 'let's go do some crimes. let's get sushi and not pay.'. and i can guess about the mustard pee and don't regret not knowing any more about it.

is spilling water quirky? i'm glad you don't know about the jar of marinara i knocked out of the refrigerator and smashed a few days ago. oops.

oh. it is the natural science museum. i was confused 'cause in other cities it would be called the natural history museum.

i've never been to the menil; i'm looking forward to it. art museums are fun.

next sunday means the 31st, right? i always get confused with that phrase.

pennsylvania and medical oddities sounds fun. and then we can do some camping at olympic national park and then hit vegas (no, really - i like to drive). but for a practice road trip how 'bout austin? sunday sept 21 is the last full day of summer... we can spend the day at hippie hollow swimming and sunning at lake travis, see the bats flying out from under the bridge at sunset, and then maybe see a show. good times. maybe go on saturday for the beach and bats and stuff, hotel party, then sunday morning at barton springs and the greenbelt, toast the equinox, then home by early sunday evening. we can meet with austinites, and ooh, buffet palace has sushi buffet and good korean chinese and japanese food, and it's cheap.

the mustard pee was the spilt water mixed with the mustard!! I'm not sure I want to know what you thought 8O

and wow! when i first read your message I thought " marinara" said marijuana and now that I'm responding...it says marinara.. guess i just saw the first four letters

....ok so maybe spilling/smashing things isn't quirky...but I just mean ..you know...nothing bad about being quirky anyway.......speaking of motor-clumsiness...i bought my first pair of actual shoes yesterday.....as I happily ran up the stairs of my apartment...i quickly fell flat on my face ...to laugh for a few moments at realizing I'd have to re-learn how to walk with my toes covered......i felt like a fish with it's dorsal fin lopped off..

you just reminded me that if anyone ever does want to go and watch bats fly out from under a bridge....we can do that pretty close by to where I live. there is a bridge with the sign "bat colony" posted....and every day at dusk a few bats trickle out....and then the thousands of others join them.....there's even a nighthawk that waits for them and snatches (at least) one out of the swarms.....so it's sorta like the circle of life......we can go anytime..

:batman:

oh, and yeah the 31st is what i mean by next sunday, sorry.

And that's just a practise one; after that the long one!

I've always wanted to visit New York... or is that too far? I don't remember the position of states in the map too well.

Where do you all want to go?

How about somewhere with mountains? does anybody snowboard?
