ANOTHER UPDATE:

by the way, she's feeling a bit better today, she sounded worse last night because she was really tired apparently. But her head still hurts pretty bad, and she's having some chest pains.
& also i was pretty sleep-deprived last night, emotional, and stressed.
So i may have overreacted to it somewhat...

Also apparently her mom has a boyfriend (news to me. Apparently her mom & him have been dating only a month longer than me & Adrienne) who's been helping out somewhat financially with the medical. But she also told me the bill was roughly around 2 to 4 thousand dollars. Still probably not cheap to pull up on the short notice that they did, and they may likely be hurting from it. & should it all fall through and the treatments prove ineffective, and as much as i don't want to think about the possibility  , they may end up having to pay for a funeral aside from it....So while medical expenses are not quite as dire as first thought. donations towards her family after travel expenses are met for support are still very welcome if you feel so inclined...

Sean, the website is looking good!
-------------------------------------------------------------
PayPal is not allowing me to donate you money while using my BlackBerry. I don't have a PayPal account and I cannot use my BlackBerry to create one.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I'll have to try to go to the library to use the computer and try to create one so that I can send in a donation.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not certain how much I can send but I will let you know as soon as I find out.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Please keep in mind that I am disabled and something is wrong with my right knee, it's swollen and painful. So I have mobility issues at the moment.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Do you have a P.O. Box address that you can display on the website that can be used as an alternative way to receive donations?
-------------------------------------------------------------
You might think about getting one as it would be easier for some of us to send you donations by mail than it is to use PayPal.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't have a P.O. Box address, maybe you could ask a pastor at your church if they have a P.O. Box address that can be used to receive donations for your trip to Indiana, living expense while there and Adrienne's medical expenses.
-------------------------------------------------------------
He might be able to get the congregation to raise funds for you and Adrienne as well.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ask Adrienne, to ask her physician for the verification of her diagnosis letter to post on the fundraising website?
-------------------------------------------------------------
I believe things would start happening a lot faster with that posted so that people can indeed verify that she is infact seriously ill.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Her local press there in Indiana might be willing to do a story about her and her medical condition and that would provide some credibility as well.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is something that needs to be done to dispel any fears people might have about this being a scam. It all just needs to be legitimatized.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Love Your Friend, Taupey

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea. Is it free to get one? if not, how much are they, do you know? Mailing would be much less complicated in some cases. At least for U.S. residents anyways who are able to send american currency or checks. I'm not sure if checks from other countries would be accepted at my local bank or not :? . Anything having to do with the transference of foreign currency in the case of some of the international donors so far might be easier online.

actually, i don't really have a regular church that i attend  . My family's attendance has always been rather haphazard. My only regular religious outlet would prolly be the prayers i send up.

i talked to her on the phone today, and she said her mother might be able to get a copy of that. I'll talk to her about it further though when i get the chance.

No P. O. Boxes aren't free but they are not expensive either. Just contact your nearest postal station and ask them.

I believe there are many people who do the same thing. Why don't you call some churches and ask to speak with the pastors/ministers. You can explain your situation and ask if he can help in anyway.

It would probably help out a great deal if the local press in her area would do a story on her and the serious nature of her illness. No-doubt that would raise awareness and donations both.

Idk if it'd show it on the blackberry, but on a normal computer at the very top of that page there's a link that says "sign up" :? . Is there anyone nearby you know with a computer or could it be done at the local library's :( ?

If you could keep us updated to on how much has been donated will be useful so we know where both you, and we stand. I hope for the sake of both your GF and her loved ones that the treatment is successful. 20 is such a young age to die.
As far as i know so far, there's been:

$20 (Horus)
$? (MONIQUEJ)
$13 (Book Noodles)
$20 (Hale_bopp)
$(20 + ?) (CockneyRebel)
$? (Happymusic)
$? (Rainsong)
$? (Melbi)
$? (Moog)
$20 (Zara)
$? (B9)

& my memory's sh***y so that's all i know off the top of my head for sure. I'm going to Scan back through my PMs and posts and add more as i find them.
First Update: so far standing somewhere upward of $93 but it's not certain yet because many either did not specify or are not yet ready to specify a any particular amount
K, so it looks like Melbi's taking a hiatus from WP for an unspecified amount of time according to a post of hers on the 19th.
So i'm not sure if i can count on anything from her until she's back and i am able to get a PM though...

Try not to take it personally Sean. It might have something to do with the economy.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Many people are unemployed. Some here are on disability like you and me and don't really have a lot of money.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Then there is the fear of being scammed for money. I mean no disrespect Sean to you or to Adrienne, but this is the Internet and there are lots of people who prey on people like us.
-------------------------------------------------------------
That's why it's so important to show proof that this situation really exists.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Then some of us don't have the PayPal accounts or an quick and easy way to register for one.
-------------------------------------------------------------
It all takes some time and effort. This is all still in the early stages. Your trying to create something with little resources, that's not an easy task.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I understand your frustration in wanting to be with Adrienne now, but having the lack of funds to get there holding you up. Unfortunately, we can only do what we can do.
-------------------------------------------------------------
That's why I have suggested contacting churches and the press and asking them for help as well. Again, it all takes time and effort. -------------------------------------------------------------
The more people who know, the more successful you will be at raising funds.
-------------------------------------------------------------
You should try to get some more sleep. I need to get some myself. Good Night. :tired:

The questions that I am asking are:

Does the girlfriend know that seanmw is trying to get the money together to go see her?

If so is she happy about it and looking forward to seeing him; ie. does she want him to visit her? Or does she seem rather reluctant about it, has she tried to put him off doing so, for any reason however "nice", ( like saying that she doesn't want him to waste his money, that it's a long trip for him, or that she isn't feeling well enough for visitors, or whatever )?

Does she know that he may be able to get the money for the trip with help from people on WP, or does she think he is very unlikely to be able to find enough money? ie. if she isn't telling the truth, if the "scam" in the whole situation is the highly sympathetic attention she gets from seanmw, rather than anything financial, is she feeling fairly confident that he won't be able to pay for a flight and therefore that her story won't be blown by him getting there?
[ She ] knows that i am trying to get money to go see her, yes. She hasn't seemed at all reluctant. Hasn't tried to put me off in any way & i told her i thought i would prolly be able to get enough money, yes.

I doubt she's just scamming for sympathy besides the fact that if she's scamming for sympathy, that'd be ridiculous 'cause it'd mean her mom is in on it too, 'cause i've also talked to her mom once or twice when Adrienne had passed out when we were on the phone. & also because it's the kind of thing that would eventually be found out in any case. So doing that wouldn't make much sense...

It wouldn't make sense to me either, but apparently "the girfriend with a terminal illness" is a classic "scam", providing emotional nourishment for a certain sort of person, and sometimes money too as a bonus. I can't imagine ever doing anything like that, but there are people for whom this kind of thing is deeply satisfying.

On the face of it someone who is introduced on the phone as your girlfriend's mother should be her mother, ( and in a different world would be ), but it *might* also be her flatmate or her sister, or a friend. I wouldn't have these sort of suspicions if I hadn't already heard of three such cases, one on WP which caused a lot of grief to a longstanding member here.

And she may be fairly sure that you would never get enough money to go and visit her, ... and may also not care very much if you did find out.

I am finding it very hard to swallow that three days of bad headache just two weeks ago, ( around the 8-11 July ) have already been diagnosed as a cancerous brain tumour and that an operation has already been scheduled for it for the 29 July, and am surprised that she is being left alone at home all day in this dangerous condition which causes her to black out etc.

... in other words I still don't believe her story, and I suspect that quite a lot of other people here don't either, or there would have been a lot more pledges to give money by now. Very sorry.

I hope for your sake that it is not a scam, and also that your girlfriend's tumour is not as serious as it currently seems to be, but at the moment have no proof that any of it is real.
.

Sometimes, cancer grows very quickly, real fast. That happens.
And it can be diagnosed easily if the signs are there.

I hope too that if it's true, Sean's girlfriend will be ok with the surgery.
