I'm 54, too.

But, perhaps, I was a Wolfman in another previous life.

" ALL the fuggin' time ~ even though I can't imagine being anything else ~ Maybe " I'm just not supposed to complain " ~ I DO tend to wish that I could have been diagnosed earlier , with this " nice , respectable " staus , and people would have been nicer to me ~ . (Okay , okay , okay ~ and me taught how to deal with it , too , " be better " ~ There , that make you happy I said that ? :( .....................)

I feel like all the activities that "normal" people go through transition them into the next stage of life and if they miss them that's a problem.

The social experience of kindergarden prepares them for the social aspect of first grade and the formation of peer groups later on.

Learning reading/writing in primary school prepares them for reading conventional literature and writing essays in high school.

Watching all the conventional movies prepares them for talking about conventional movies and interests.

First girlfriend at age < 16 prepares them for talking to next girlfriend at age 16+ which prepares for age 20s which prepares for relationships in general and marriage.

Or the experience of parties at age 12-14 prepares them for college parties at age 18.

It's like gradual metamorphosis. And every step counts.
And I've missed almost all of them steps. Look at me, talk to me. I'm not normal.
You can probably learn this in other ways, but it's much less "natural" and you generally don't have that life experience.

But I'm happy. As long as I don't have to talk to anyone who reminds me of what I've missed... :P

I feel I have missed out on half of my life. I accept this. Dwelling on the past is futile.

I will try to make the second half of my life better.

I'm over what I may or may not of "missed". Life is linear and I'm going to keep going forward.
