I remember working on the railways. The shift I was on had a 0400am start. I think it was 0411? I had to get up at 0200am or there abouts to get to work on time. I had to get the ticket machine sorted and prep the train as it left at 0428am. It went on its journey up a branch line through the middle of Wales. I swapped trains for the return journey, so was coming back down several hours later. On a long straight stretch, I was sitting on the drivers side of the rear cab as the 2nd mans side didn't always have a suitable seat. I heard the train horn going. It became louder. It was only the one tone (Drivers normally use high and low tones) and it was continual. "What's the driver doing?" I thought. Then the horn became louder. I was nodding off with my head pressed against the horn lever. In all the 9 years on the railway and all the times I could have slept while on the trains during empty stock so I wasn't needed for the odd hour, and all the attempts I tried to sleep, that was the only moment I recall that I started to sleep while on a train ad I worked them for 9 years.
