The problem with that forum is that it's a bunch of "NTW-Scorned" whose ASH have no idea that they are doing any scorning. When a bunch of NTW-Scorned come together on one forum, they all get sucked into the same hive mind/echo chamber. It's a feature of their own neurology, exacerbated by their shared perception of Cassandra victimization. Like an extreme version of NT bashing on WP, which is tame compared to the AS bashing there. It's not a good idea for people trying to have healthy relationships to go there.

I just looked up that Cassandra crap, and it is a load of BS. Blame the AS partner for the NT's problems, is what it amounts to. If someone isn't getting what they need, it's up to THEM to say so, not up to their partner to read their f^cking minds. It is not my responsibility to assure someone else's happiness....in fact, it's IMPOSSIBLE.

Geeze, some people will even make up diagnoses to place the blame for their unhappiness on someone else!

Thank You Kate a million times!! !! I would say let's sit down and hash it out.

I wonder if Cassandra Effective Disorder is a politically correct way of saying "you are the bad guy and it's your fault you are feeling this way, here is a label to paint you as the victim to help yourself feel better?"

For me, I need to know if I'm doing anything wrong, where I'm wrong, why I'm wrong, what the right thing is, and why this is the correct thing is and possibly how to do the right thing. If I'm doing it right I need a comfirmation of some kind to know I'm doing it right.

First, I do love my wife dearly. She and I are starting a non-profit. I had to load heavy boxes in our car and she was helping somewhat by carrying lighter boxes. She told me there were only a couple of boxes of a particular kind of item. I go in and I see more than a couple. I told her "I thought you said there were a couple." I was using my "I" statements I learned. She said, "no, she meant several." I was irritated by this point. I said, "no a couple means two and I asked why couldn't just say several." By then, my frustration levels went up even more. She asked sternly, "why do I have to be so accurate all the time?" I finally said, "Let's just get this crap into the car and drop it. This is not worth arguing about and not worth the fuss." We finished loading the car and the argument was dropped and I was able to diffuse this quickly and my frustration and my blood pressure levels went down.

The moral of the story is even if you're correct sometimes it's better to just let it go.

The thread just has "dating sites" as the topic. They don't mention me by name but I recognized that they were talking about some of my threads when they started complaining how "manipulative" it is for WP members to post their dating profiles and help each other improve them. I don't understand how that can be considered "manipulating" other people on dating sites but never mind that.

That is one of my pet peeves. My husband says couple but it's always more than two.

Good for you for letting it go.

I think I may have seen that thread and didn't they say how people here were giving each other the wrong advice and the other said how she wanted to tell us all we were all wrong and that is not how it works?

I thought then why didn't she just post then and tell us the real rules of relationships? We could use some help here by hearing from an NTs perspective or hearing their rules so we can learn.

I wouldn't have dropped it but I suppose that sometimes it's necessary to keep the peace in a marriage. I don't really see myself ever getting married.

I expect people to be specific when possible and if they are not they are lying to me.

I have a question. Are you all putting false information about yourselves or being deceptive in any way? If you are then you all are presenting a false persona of who you truly are. If you all are putting false information about yourselves then yes, you all are being manipulative in my opinion. In this particular case, if you all are doing deceptive practices then I will have to side with them on this one.

Before getting into a relationship with a person they need to know the full you both your good qualities and your faults. The reverse is true as well. You need to know the full them as well both their good qualities and their faults. All of this needs to be laid out on the table.

Don't most people put "false" information in dating sites or at least try to make themselves look better? If you don't do that some people would get no responses at all.

Here is a funny little link about personal ads and what they really mean.

None of us put any false information on our dating profiles at all. We do try to present our positive qualities more than our faults though, but thats only because a dating profile is just there to illicit a first message. Getting to know each other is what dating is for, and also why you would normally send each other messages and e-mail each other before actually meeting. Ironically, while they are warning each other in that thread that we often neglect to mention that we have AS in profiles, this is mostly because websites like ASPartners exist. I personally wouldn't want people googling AS and finding a site like ASPartners before actually meeting me. I did eventually mention my AS on my OKCupid profile but, fortunately, it turned out fine and I'm still dating the girl that I met on there.

Some do but putting false information on a dating profile is not a good idea because it generally means that won't get anything more than a single date. However, most people try to present themselves in the best possible light, which is why you need to message and ask them about things that are not in the profile.

It doesn't have to necessarily be false, just make you look better.

Like my saying I'm a reserved person that likes to spend quiet evenings at home sounds better than saying I'm a recluse that rarely leaves my house.

I remember the thread because I participated in it. I don't think there's anything dishonest at all about tweaking dating profiles to present you in the best light. It's really no different than tweaking a resume before sending it to potential employers. Would those posters complain about that? It would be dishonest to use somebody else's photo just as it would be dishonest to say you went to Harvard on your job resume. But there was none of that. It was all just advise about how to present yourself so as to attract the women most compatible with you.

I don't believe this is possible, and is actually kind of creepy to actually ask of someone while in the process of getting into a relationship. Being in a relationship does not mean giving up one's personal boundaries, nor does it mean giving carte blanche to someone else to pry into your history.

I think it's important to be honest, though. If I'd known I had AS when I met my husband I would have told him. I don't think it's necessarily something you share early on, but if someone is in a serious relationship I think it's important to lay everything out so the partner knows what's going on and enters a long term partnership fully informed.
