I've had a few today. The most recent was when someone pointed out my apparent difficulty in "getting" the flow and rhythm of conversation. It's a little weird to go through life thinking you're more or less typical, but then all of a sudden realize that others do indeed see you as being a little different...

"It's nice to meet you."
"Nice to... see you too."

This reminds me of one from a couple weeks ago...

Person who I apparently met before but didn't recognize: "Nice to see you again"
Me: "Yeah, good to meet you--uh..." 8O

This has not been a good day for me in terms of proprioception. I've bumped into walls three times so far today.

My most recent one had to be this morning when talking to a new person and I didn't know how to respond to his small talk so all I said was "yeah."

I had a minor meltdown in Walmart tonight. We realized that we needed to get a few groceries for the weekend, after we got out of see Dark Shadows (great movie by the way!)...I knew this was bad because I was already overstimulated, but it was necessary. Well, I didn't realize that it was so late that the stockers were out and they had palates EVERY WHERE and it was so loud as they were putting stuff away. They were doing all of this on the grocery side and that is where we had to be. We ended up in the middle of several crowds of employees and stacks of palates, trying to get a case of water. All of the noise, crowds, and cluttered aisles (oh, and an employee blocked off part of the isle that I needed to go down with a mopping bucket, sign, etc)...led to my covering my ears and making a bee-line for a clear area. Oh, and I was repeatedly mumbling things regarding my need to get out of there immediately.

I am sitting at my computer while stimming with Wrong Planet open in one browser window, and several other windows open with stuff pertaining to another special interest.

Getting lost on the way home from a worship arts conference in Tomball. I had no problems getting to the conference; it was going home that was the problem!

Having a new friend tell me she cares about me, and I didn't remember that I should have said something back until several hours too late.

I spotted a license plate late last week that reminded me of a Wrong Planet member's user name. :P

My fiance's handyman uncle comes over to look at our broken AC unit and tells me that I'm looking tan. I burst out my response in frustration, talking about how I put on sunscreen about 3 times a day (because my skin is so fair and freckled and we live in the desert) yet I'm still getting sun damage?

Later when he's gone my fiance tells me that the uncle was just trying to give me a complement.

Haha, I used to get so many bruises and scratches as a kid I was afraid they were going to think my parents were abusive and take me away.

Also since going through puberty 10-15 years ago get at least bi-monthly bruises on one of my hips.

I'm sure I've almost fallen over more than once today just while standing in place or walking around the apartment.

I'm surprised I haven't broken any bones, to be honest. I often feel a little off-balance and it wasn't until I learned about AS that I knew why. One memorable proprioception injury: I was playing tennis (poorly!) with some family members; at one point, I ran alongside the chain-link fence along the edge of the tennis court, and got too close to it. I ended up getting my thumb caught in the fence and sprained it as a result. :?

Yowza! 8O

One vividly embarrassing moment in junior high came when the PE teachers had to record how far the girls could throw a ball (I think it was a President's fitness award). My turn came, and instead of throwing correctly I didn't let go soon enough and threw the ball straight down on the ground in front of me (I got something like 5 feet and everyone else was getting like 40 feet; they didn't allow a do-over).

I'm also quite surprised that I never broke anything. Although I try to avoid potentially harming situations at all costs I still have scratches and bruises and burns as an adult. :P
