self dignosed attention whores
...
To me, that's the worst aspect of AS...the struggle to decipher social code. It seems like the rules keep changing arbitrarily.
Social "norms" have no logical rhythm to me. I can't seem to figure out their pattern, hence no pattern recognition.
I agree with ALL of that!
I agree with THAT also!

I find it funny that the original poster thinks Asperger's Syndrome means you have a low-IQ.
By definition you cannot have Asperger's Syndrome if your IQ is below 80, if it is you are a "low-functioning Autisic" or something like that.
My IQ (according to a probably inaccurate online IQ test) is 135. Which is in the top 3% of all people. This is consistent with a military-run standardized test I took. Of course that test showed my verbal skills to be in the top 2%, which I find very odd.
who knows? maybe you have Kanners Syndrome?
all i know is that after many years of problems, i was medically diagnosed with Aspergers by experts in the field, and once i recieved the support, my life got a whole lot better... whether of not i have Aspergers, the diagnosis and support seems to have done the trick... but it is more logical to say that if the support for Aspergers syndrome actually helped me, then it is likely what i have...
i didnt know anything about it until the eggheads checking me out told me about it...
go figure...
i suspect you to be a Troll, but it is equally likely that you are just a misdiagnosed kanners Sydrome with anger issues...
what ever the case... if you are willing to be nice to us, we will be nice to you, take it or leave it......

Welcome to WP, i hope your stay is a pleasant one
actually, the criteria for AS specificallys says IQ can vary from normal (100) and above. you don't have to be super smart to have AS... the opposite is not true however...
Just where does the criteria mention IQ at?
Thats because another "label" may fit someone who has significant delays in cognitive
development better. Meaning your greatest problem is often your primary diagnosis.
Unless the genes related to aspergers are tightly associated with genes for average and above average intelligence then certainly the condition of aspergers does infact follow a
bell shaped curve of intelligence regardless of what the formal DSM-IV says.
I didn't know cognitive development meant above average IQ or average. So I guess I do meet that part then. I thought it meant able to understand things and grasp onto concept while growing up and not have cognitive thinking problems.
After reading the thread I realized that the guy might not be a troll but a guy who is in so much pain and he blames AS for feeling so bad that gets angry, so I take back what I said.
Aspie17 if you would had come here in a more friendly tone, people here would have support you and you would not have felt so lonely and crappy.
I have to disagree a little with that, it makes it seem like anyone who is a jerk is because he has low IQ, I don't think being an a**hole has something to do with his IQ, objectivly speaking. And I agree that people with low IQ here would feel offended by the relation.
About the IQ thing, I wonder this, paper test I got 93 or 96 I don't remember exactly, which I thought was a little below average, in an online test I got 110, I am not sure if it means the second time you get it better and is not valid for that, or is it depending of the IQ test, as they are different and they always point out different score, I was just wondering.

HECK NO! I didn't mean to imply that! Some stupid, or even smart, people think they know far more than they do. I was saying simply that THAT is a true kind of stupidity. In the context, I was arguing that those that may have a lower IQ and were on the sidelines were, in a way, smarter, because they aren't going around blaming everything for their problems, etc... As for jerks, I have known people with low IQs that seemed nice, and people with high IQs that seemed like real JERKS. I am certainly not going to say personality, niceness, or even attitude have any direct correlation to IQ.
As for AS requirements on IQ? SOME have said 100+. Some said normal or better. They ***ALL*** say NO clinically significant cognitive deficiencies besides social! That means AS people can NOT be ret*d! Aspie17 is just 10% above the floor.

Based on the DSM-IV your correct but I find it hard to believe that its not a condition that has a bell shaped IQ distribution. So people may get off on the semantics of calling others HFA, LFA or etc but I do not.
You're right, of course! I wasn't arguing against that, but only that most were farther up.
All iq measures is how good people are at doing iq tests.
You're certainly right there also. Who is able to write an accurate test anyway?
Steve
To those who dissaproved of my 'moron' remark, I apologise. My IQ is much higher and still I come off as a complete moron myself. The way I see it, we are ambassadors for AS and need to treat all with open arms, first impressions aside. I shall practice patience and understanding in future.

Hey -- just because he's saying something bad, doesn't mean it's okay to insult people with low IQs. There are plenty of people on here with possibly lower IQ scores than this guy who don't run around being obnoxious.
Hey, 85 and up is still within one standard deviation of the mean. That means that your IQ is low average, but not in the impaired range. 85-115 is considered to be in the range of average, which includes 68% of the population.

intelligence means little, when it's often intelligent people who are nasty and ignorant, and when those classed as ret*d show much more respect and meaning to others, one man am used to live with is LFA and mentally retarded-he is one of the nicest persons have ever met, would never hit anyone or be nasty.
-Despite being like a child, he seems more intelligent than some who are supposed to have intelligence.

The guy seriously has his priorities wrong. Although it's wrong of me to say he's an idiot, he's obviously pretty much seeking attention himself by making this thread.
Do you fear peoples displeasure/anger? Do you feel he would be dangerous?
LOL. This drives me crazy. It's unPC to judge whether someone else is being an idiot or not. That's not hypocrisy - it's critical thinking. And I'm all for it.
This is what I have to deal with as a special ed teacher. Kids who have been dx'd, maybe misdx'd, at a very young age so they grow up thinking they're special and a victim and no one else has the right to steal away the attention they think is solely entitled to them. In other words, they're brats, and while I'm professionally bound not to call them that at work, I feel no such inhibition here. That aspie17's foaming at the mouth about supposed "attention whores" is simply because he is one (clinically, that's called "projection" - you see, if he gets to go around dx'ing other people, we should be able to dx him too). Obviously he has been made an attention whore, but he's still accountable for his behavior, so it's his own damn fault that he insists on staying one and bullying other people so he can claim center stage all for himself. For that, he does not get any sympathy from me.
Getting a dx is not an official certificate of entitlement or a free pass to play the victim all your life. It does not bestow you with any authority, least of which is the authority to decide who does and does not have AS. It's simply a professional acknowledgement that there are things you need to work on. I don't think aspie17 has figured that out yet. But for anyone going around boasting about having an IQ of 88, I suspect that realization is going to be a pretty big challenge in and of itself.
