I must be honest and say that I'm glad I'm not a girl with Asperger's because all the studies and news bulletins etc about Asperger's are always based on boys and not girls, and this for girls must be extremely frustrating.

Also though may I add that I don't have meltdowns, but like you Psygirl6 I do have shutdowns. I don't really cry either (but I do get very close to) and I always go into a complete world of my own and I think "why am I like this"? "Why can't anybody understand me"? And sometimes this gets me down so much and I become completely exhausted after these shutdowns. Like now I think I have depression and an Anxiety Disorder but I know full well if I went and told my parent this that they wouldn't believe me and that I'm wrong, and this would make me shutdown completely I fear....... I want people to understand me but I fear people never will

Robbokris, I think I can identify with what you're saying. I lived life without my mom understanding/believing me, until age 36, when a psychologist introduced us to aspergers. If you can persuade your mom to take you to a psychologist, the independent opinion might be enough to convince. If that psychologist doesen't know about AS, find a different one.

I couldn't get up the courage to talk to it with my psychologist, though I did bring up some of my AS traits withtout mentioning AS and he said I was like Bill Gates, but that was all lol...

I've been told I'm too good at having a conversation by my therapist, but I might have mild AS. He didn't think if I had AS it was diagnosable however.
