I like the visual aspect of fireworks but I don't like the way people pack into the waterfront area where I live, just to see the fireworks. The sound is unnerving but after a few bangs I get semi-used to it. Worse than the fireworks is the loud party of neighbors you described. I hate that kind of thing, especially when you can hear what people are saying. I would be inclined to call the police or throw something out the window at them.

Damn, even fireworks are "void in Rhode Island"!

I hate them. Absolutely hate them. Now that I'm living in the country I'll only have them two times a year, at a local village event, which I can avoid. When I lived on a crappy housing estate I had to put up with it constantly, and sometimes I was a basket case. Chinese New Year, festival of lights, Eid, English new year, guy fawkes, any bloody excuse. :?

I like fireworks, I never used to when I was little, but now I just love them. I like the way they look and even how they sound. I like the ones that go up silently then make that sudden "BOOOOOOOM" sound and the squeely ones are cool too. Also I think the bigger the firework the better, I don't like those naff little back garden things.

Edit: I'm not in the US

My neighbors are far enough away that their parties and private fireworks don't bother me soh much.

The worst experience I've had with fireworks is the public display in Boston, when viewed from Washington Street, especially if there are houses behind you, which can reflect the booming noise back at almost full intensity. Last time I was there, earplugs were used and the experience wasn't soh bad. The crowds there can definitely make you feel overwhelmed, depending on what your reason for being there is.

If you have a car, a nice experience is to park it in such a way that you can view fireworks through the windshield. I did that last year to view a local public fireworks display (a very moderate one - in the suburbs). Being in the car can be a nice buffer.

fireworks was one of those things my mother disapproved of, and since she was no fun I was pretty sure fireworks had to be a lot of fun. I've always loved going to see them but picked an isolated spot like a roof from which to watch.

last year the neighborhood frenzy we attended was so overwhelming I spent part of it in my car. this year my husband went and bought us those big ear-muff things this year and it solved the auditory problems (I don't mind the booms, but I can't stand the shrill ones even though they're prettiest) so my only real problem was with the strobing ones. they actually hurt.

I like to watch, but the noise is a problem for which my earplugs are an imperfect solution. At least, they keep the noise down to a physically safe level.

Last night, I went to a concert/fireworks show. (If I had known about the concert, I wouldn't have gone.) On top of some physical discomfort I was having, the rock, while not loud (I was far from the bandstand), was very annoying. I had a brief respite after the band stopped. Then, the fireworks started. They were accompanied by even louder rock. So, I was ready to leave after a few seconds, even with the earplugs. I only relaxed when they played the service anthems (military band). The physical shock waves from the fireworks were also annoying.

Next year, if I'm invited by this lot, I'm finding out their intentions first so I can avoid the stress of a rock concert.

not AS or American but some local idiots were throwing fireworks around here last night,went on for a while,was on the floor from it,the same could be said for Biscuit.
had wished they would blow their hands off because was left in agony,am given sedatives off the gp for any big firework occasion but this was unplanned and illegal.

they should be banned for private/home use,and public displays only done in places where theres alot of land around them.

One time my neighbours FROM HELL threw yet ANOTHER loud party and I actually threw rabbit turd out the window at them (well she only cacked herself because of all the noise!). I hate november here in England. Although fireworks night is officially Nov 5th, it starts in late October and goes on until at least the 10th. People just don't give a damn about those with sensory problems or pets. I think that it is worse for pets though because they can't understand what the bangs are. I personally usually resort to shutting myself in a cupboard with loud music and/or ear protectors like the builders wear!

I don't mind fireworks so much, especially the really colorful ones...especially when my pyromaniac self gets to play with them :oops:

But I really hate the big flashy strobey ones that make a HUGE bang that rattles the ground and I can feel it in my chest :x You never quite know when they're going to light one off, and how many there are going to be :x :x :x

Lilac = Potassium

Turquoise = Copper

(Sorry couldn't resist)

Fireworks are fun even if they make me jump.

I hate them. I have to plug my ears everytime. I am especially afraid of the small ground ones, like firecrackers and bottle rockets - I fear that they will kill me somehow.

Gay. I live in Ilinois and have that problem too. Loved going to Indiana for larger stuff. Mother is too paranoic/cowardly to really get da big guns.

When I was a kid I lived in a state where explosive fireworks were legal. I loved watching them. That was the paradox of fireworks, to me: The visual input was extremely pleasant... the auditory was overwhelming. It's like somebody punches you in the face every time you get to eat ice cream. Some people would still go for the ice cream.

Wear earmuffs or something.

Fireworks are FUN to watch. As long as im aware they're going off/no 'surprise'. When I was younger I didn't like it as much (sound) but now it's okay I guess/used to it and it's cool.

We go to Indiana, but we usually end up getting a whole ton of stuff that's only BARELY illegal, like Roman candles and bottle rockets.
