Im not a big list person. I write them out, but I only use them at that moment (like phone calls to make) as opposed to all day long. But, to break free from any routine and list, which I love to do, save up for a vacation, or if you come to some money you can blow somewhat responsibly, just get in the car and start driving (with that money). Stop when you feel like stopping, go where you feel like going...all on a whim. If you have to pack, stop at a mall or Walmart. I tend to head toward the beach when I do that, but at times, I just end up in the middle of nowhere which is fine too. You might want to check your vehicles' fluids at some point too. If that sounds too crazy to jump at... consider working to get ahead of your lists and then take one or more days off, preplanned, from following lists. I do that one more often than not, like plan my own home vacations.

Oh, and if you are just getting bored with the way your list looks, you can always try to color code, using different mediums like erase boards (which isn't cool around toddlers who erase your list), electronic media (cell phone, computer software, pda, etc.) etc.

At the moment I've got a word document open on the computer with a list of chores to get done today. Then I can just pick something off the list (doesn't have to be in order, because there are things I'm trying to avoid  ). Change font to red for the one I'm supposed to focus on. Change it to green when it's done. I like being able to see that I've achieved things. If things don't get done then I just delete the list and make a new one next time. I try to keep it realistic, but I rarely finish everything.

One thing I've found when I don't want to do somethng on my list, is I do somethng else on the list to put off doing the thing I don't want to. While rebelling against not doing that one thing, I actually trck myself into doing a whole lot of things on the list and actually get heaps achieved.

For incentive there's my trick about listing something easy/obvious, like watering the plant. Then the satisfaction of crossing that task off. See? There IS a method. Sort-of.

I have a diary so everytime I need to remember to do something I write it down. The problem occurs when I forget to check my diary and end up not doing a lot of the things that I should have. Sometimes I tell my mum to remind me to do a certain thing on a certain day, in case I forget. I have an organized, analytical brain but a very messy life.

I'm an avid list maker. I make lists of my lists. It seems never ending. Even if I don't accomplish everything that I put on my list, it still feels better to me to have at least written it down. It gives me a sense of control for some reason. I figured out when I was in my early teens that I HAD to make lists. If I don't, nothing gets done. The only problem that I seem to have with it is getting way, way too detailed in making them, and also putting way too much on them. Much of the time, I over pack the lists to unrealistic proportions that no one could complete. I just really like organizing information. Making lists is almost like a stim to me.

I write lists quite frequently. I find they stop me from overthinking things, and as I am checking chores off the list, I start to feel better that these things are done and I don't have to worry about them anymore. If the list remains in my brain, I will start to over-detail each and every item on the list, and over-detail the details, and it spirals out of control. When it is written down, it can't go anywhere and the goal of finishing the list is achievable, if that makes sense. Otherwise, I can very easily mire myself in a mudbed of detail, chronic procrastination does set in and nothing gets done. So, all hail lists

I can do many things without a list.

If it's important, I make a list because I get absent minded enough that I don't trust that I won't forget sans a list to remind me.
