I don't know, I always hear people complaining about iPods and iTunes, and I've had an RCA MP3 player for quite a while and have had no qualms with it whatsoever (though it would be nice if it played OGGs, but I've heard that few portable music devices do).

It's especially nice because it takes a AAA battery, so if it dies, I don't have to find a computer and wait for it to recharge.

Yeaaahh I'm such a pathetic sheep NT wannabe cuz I don't feel like looking up a million unknown brands on google and judging whether they're a bargain or whether they rightfully have a low price

Get real, I'd only go through that much trouble if I wanted to buy a car. I embrace individualism, but this is just straight up corny.

Well, it depends on your motives. I wouldn't have gotten an Ipod if I could have afforded it, I'd probably still have gotten the 30 dollar RCA one.

See, I just walked right into Walmart not knowing my options, went to the MP3 player, and saw it. I was like, "It plays music, that is all it has to do."

It doesn't take research. I didn't do any reading on it, and I saved a decent bit of cash in comparison to the expensive alternatives. Sure, I can't fit 439058340958 CD's on it, but I don't need that.

I plan on buying a better model later, one with more room. I also use my MP3 player as a storage device, and I'd like more room for storage.

I'm sorry, I just don't think it takes that much work, and that people who buy Ipods are either sheeple, spoiled, or don't know any better. You pick one.

I understand what you mean

As for ipod, I got my first music player (of any sort), this christmas. And I splurged (120g zune, love it to no end), but before hand, never had a single mp3 player, cd player, walkman, radio player, nothing. I didn't even own CDs until my friend mailed me some because he found out (for my car I also got this year)

It just wasn't important to me, and no money to spare, and no 'need' for it. But I did want one recently and got it, and love it *shrug*

But yeah, I often feel this way... usually not so much about technology and stuff because doni't really care, but just... in general. Movies, tv shows, news, etc. Ppl say things and I'm like "whats that?" "...you don't know?" "...no..." "what?!" "sorry, I'm oblivious" "well its ___", etc

Don't take it that seriously. Its only material possessions, you have to look past it and work your way until you feel you can get more than just what you need (and you do NOT need an ipod, computer, etc. Food/rent comes first, then you can go for less neccessary stuff)

Too many ppl spend money on the latest _____ (especially phones) to fit in, and dont even have the money to support themselves, so kudos to you for NOT doing that.

I agree with you on that.
I used to have an Ipod that I found one day when I was walking. In the end I found it way too annoying with having to use itunes and decided to just use my portable CD player instead. Of course it would be easier to have something more convenient like an MP3 player but I wouldn't buy one just because it had the latest technology, whatever that may be (I'm so behind in those sorts of things, haha).
I also find it really stupid how people buy things simply because they have all these over-priced silly features that aren't even essential.

I agree with both of you on the Ipod craze. Why have an Ipod when you can buy a mp3 player? So much simpler to use than to say an Ipod. Besides, I need only music to listen to, and since I like to listen to anime and game music, I can find them on an mp3 file free to download instead of finding them on mp3 file, go to Itunes and change them for the Ipod. So many unneccessary things X'd out with an mp3.

Brittany2907, if you do want an mp3 player instead of walking around with a cd player for convenience, I suggest to buy a Sandisk Sansa Clip mp3. It's simple to use, has few features, and only plays music (or audio if you want to get broader.) The two gigabytes ones were $50 when I first bought one at Best Buy, but now they're like--an estimate here--$30 now. If not, I know it's cheaper than $50 dollars now, but still, it's a simple to use mp3 player. And trust me, I'm behind the times when it comes to technology. Don't see the point in buying unneccessary things. World just too materialistic these days.

Just a suggestion if you plan to buy one.

I always wanted a iPod or an iPod touch, but I could never afford it. Even though I had a mp3 player on my previously-owned Sidekick I could never play the songs available on the iTunes store because they're locked via DRM. But since apple finally got around to get rid of DRM on all of the songs they offered, and I have a T-Mobile G1 I can finally play my music on the go.

Sadly it's not the same with video downloads...they're still locked via DRM.

There are SOOOO many reasons. Where to start?

Not necessarily. The iPod uses a very simple synchronization method - plug it in, open iTunes, and it does the rest. Once your done, the iPod uses an incredibly simple hierarchical menu system. Really, it can't get much simpler.

You don't have to convert an MP3 file to an "iPod" format... It remains an MP3 file in iTunes.

Oh, so now everyone who owns an iPod is materialistic? That's a pretty ignorant generalization to make. Sure, there are a lot of people who own iPods that fit the the description of a spoiled/materialistic person. However it's not fair to say that everyone who owns one to match them up with that description.

Yes, you sure are an expert.

Ugh...

I would probably go on and on about people who b***h and moan about iPods and other related items right now, but my brain is moderately fried right now. I bet half the people who bash the iPod/iPhone/Mac, etc. have probably never used one. Yes, I agree that the iPod craze is getting to be a little excessive, but some of us really do value these devices.

I love my iPod. I don't listen to music much, but there are so many free novels you can download and listen to while you do boring stuff like driving, loading the dishwasher, folding laundry, weeding the tomato plants, etc. I think my poor brain would shrivel up inside my skull and die without it. Or more accurately, I would be a much worse procrastinator.

Depends on what you think and what your needs are. To me, I just need only music, and I don't need all those gigabytes, so why buy an Ipod 8G when you can buy something more of a convenience? Plus its really annoying to move the screen up and down by swirling on the keypad clockwise and counterclockwise when you can just do it up and down. And speaking of Iphones, I really don't need that either. I don't play on the games and download all that stuff just to do it; I only need a phone to call. Since I don't text (thinks it makes people illiterate) I don't use that either. Just have a phone that might be simple to you, but who need to buy all the extra features if you're not going to use it about 3/4 of your time? Besides, why get an Ipod only to find out I also need Itunes when I can get an mp3 and download it from Windows Media Player of Realplayer since they're already on your computer for free (Realplayer you can download for free.)

When I said the world is too materialistic, I wasn't talking about the Ipod in general if you read the sentence before that. I said the world in general has too many unneccessary things. In other words, I was speaking obliquely about people having too many stuff. Just because someone has an Ipod doesn't mean they own everything else they don't actually need. Some people may need the Ipod.

And about saying I'm an expert sarcastically, I said SUGGESTION, and besides, I said if she wants to buy one.

Look for the implied message a person posts before you make a smart remark. Seriously, I don't see why the world needs to buy the latest and expensive_______ so they can be happy when one can buy only their needs and buy the less expensive brand and still be happy with it. It's like buying two cereal brands or buying a Hostess HO--Ho's and a LIttle Debbie Swiss Roll: both taste good and have the same basic features, yet just because one's more popular people'll buy it to look good when in fact they need to budget their money or think about what they really need. Some people...

My 'Ipod' is utterly essential to my life. Without it, I can't easily go outside, both the world and your thoughts just feel more oppressive without something additional like music using up part of your brain processing power. Since mine was malfunctioning for a few days and finally died yesterday, I haven't been leaving the house.

But hating Itunes, I'm dropping Apple for Creative, maybe the Creative Zen Mx but I'm thinking Creative Zen X-Fi: http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/ ... duct=17811

£127 on amazon.co.uk, bargain given that they throw in quality £30 headphones.

I don't haven an iPod either, and am always late on any technical advances ore new nifty web thingies (eg. didn't get a Twitter account till last month). I don't consider this a problem though.

Absolutely. I see no point in buying a device like that that is more than you need. However, it's when people inflict their personal needs onto another person's situation, telling them not to buy it for those reasons, not even knowing what their needs actually are. IMO, that's the biggest problem with those who bash Apple and the Mac/iPod world.

Anyways, this thread is getting pretty off-topic, so I'll stay out of it for a while. :P

Meh, it doesn't matter if you are up to date on technology or not. I've still got all the 'old' games consoles, a VCR, a 3510i mobile phone (I've had it for about 6 or 7 years) and a portable CD player. I had a MuVo Creative for a long time which works just fine (although it kinda fell apart after a little while...) so I saw no reason to update to an i-pod which I thought was just too expensive. I was then given an i-pod shuffle as a birthday/christmas/birthday present (yeah, my uncle forgot...) which he picked up in America dirt cheap! I love my i-pod shuffle as it is easy to get tunes on and off it, it is tiny so fits in my pocket and the headphones which came with it are awesome (although I see no reason not to buy these for another player!). The downsides are that it is tiny (yeah I know I have contradicted myself...) and I am always losing the darned thing despite it being bright pink, it has no visual display so I don't know what song it is playing and it needs to be charged on a computer which seems a bit of a waste of electricity to me! I wouldn't get rid of the i-pod now I have got it but I probably won't get another one when this one gives up. I'm only 21 and I don't bother keeping with the times!
