A little cocktail consisting of genetics and environmental factors.

People have studied Einstein's brain. They found that some parts of his brain were unusually small.

Genetic, although I suspect that intolerance for social awkwardness in our society exacerbates the social problems we have.

Aspies have twice as many engineers in their families as NT's. My grandfather is a retired engineer and his dad was an engineer.

There is powerful scientific evidence showing that autism is at least partly genetic. My guess is that the root cause of autism is entirely genetic.

However, I believe that how each autist eventually copes with her/his autism can greatly depend on environmental factors, including home life, schooling, and other encouragement and support.

Well nobody knows. I agree that it seems to be something involving genetics. Both my parents are extremely social people and pretty much the opposite of me but I see some traits particularly on my fathers side. I think I probably could of went without being noticed if it wasn't for the pretty severe anxiety though.

I'm kinda with pensieve on this, with the current state of research.

The neurological investigations are pretty crude, and we don't even really know what white matter does, and it all seems like phrenology.

I think the descriptions by aspies & auties show patterns that neurologists won't be able to identify in actual brain tests for another decade or more, and eventually the spectrum will broaden into multiple dimensions with lots of sub-sets. But there seems to be a strong genetic factor. The environment can have a lot to do with whether a characteristic becomes an impairment or not.

I was 4 months early, and had a Subdural hematoma, and almost went blind/deaf, and I died 3 times, So, that is PROBABLY the cause of my AS, don't you think so?
