If I catch anything thrown to me, it's 100% just plain dumb luck. Usually I step out of the way to avoid whatever it is hitting me in the face, and then pick it up after it lands, but I'll go for a catch if it's something important/breakable/edible/etc.

Strangely its my only sporting talent. I play goalie in football and I'm better than most of the guys I play with. I'm a dead loss at everything else athletic.

Key ringing the bell topic

If you mean catching a keyring on an upturned finger (the middle one? :P) , I learned to do this because of my interest in keys, fobs and those rings (as long as the circumference is large enough to fit over the finger, or thumb).

Practice, practice! I had plenty of it as a kid, as I usually played alone. :)

Sometimes I can catch something that's thrown at me, but for the most part no. I'm just not all that coordinated about predicting where the ball (or keys) will end up. A couple of years ago there was a street juggler at the local art fair. He stopped me and said he could teach me to juggle on the spot ("anyone can juggle!"). I politely declined. Trying to keep track of three balls at once is just way too much for me to handle.

About half-and-half. do better just as reflex than trying to figure it out. now, when watching, I do pretty good at guessing where something will end up.
One note, DON'T even try to catch the carving knife when you drop it in the kitchen 8O  sitting here looking at the scar from that from ten years ago right now.
