Oh how does this relate to my "talking out of one's butt" theme?

Oh maybe it's obvious!

I have no idea what lawn care has to do with a thread about doctors who use parts of their body other than their mouth to talk.

I would be impressed if I had someone who had a talking arse which could answer questions and be lucid. I would then like to send in a paper on the discovery to Nature and get fame+fortune.

I suspect that some "professionals" act in an unprofessional way by telling a lie to try to avoid admitting that they are not trained or equipped to deal with something. I once recall reading the advice given out by a UN body which is in charge of one area of activity it read

"XXX (profession) should not accept work which they are either not trained for or equipped for". While it was advice issued for one profession it is good general advice.

I have had some good doctors, one of them freely admitted to me when I turned up with solvent and/or latex induced dermatitis that it was something which he did not know everything about. While I have also had one doctor who was a prize twit, he failed to notice a adverse drug reaction warning on the cover of my medical notes written in big fat red felt tip pen by the practise nurse.

I would like to know what he would do if I put a big nasty crocodile in a room, shut the door and wrote "Danger killer crocodile, this one has eaten five zoo keepers already" in 2 inch high letters on a plain yellow background with black paint. Would he just blindly open the door without thinking, I have visions of the croc getting an early meal.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Wow, we all have the same doctor. Actually, I haven't had one say I'm not but their ignorance is flaming showing to their own detriment. Often this is because they truly are flaming ignorant and too egocentric to say they just don't know.

Bonus: Neuro/psych's are disposable! Soft and strong, just like kleenex....and disposable. Lab Pet has run out of places to hide the bodies but there are some who are nice...

APA, make my day. Lab Pet is the therapist slayer. Fully equipped with garlic wreath, silver crucifix, candles, and incantation. Bad psych, bad.

Ok, the one I have now IS nice - and very good! He doesn't (or didn't) know much about Autism/AS but that's all right. He does have the ability to read (I usually write, not speak), he's smart, and thinks. Also, just a dose of logic in him. Lab Pet likes that.

I guess if yours is lacking, find another. No sense in wasting time with a loser.

I had to smile while reading your post. Buffy. The therapist slayer!
I also write a lot with my therapist. It's easier and more to the point than talking. She's better than some I've had and heard about.

They talk out of their butts because they are basically imposters. You only have to look at the job descriptions of some of these people: you'll find a list of responsibilities so long that nobody could possibly be fulfilling all that. But they want the money and the kudos so they lie and pretend that they're capable of keeping the whole shebang running.

It's inherent in the practice of elitism. In truth we all have similar capabilities, so anybody wishing to be part of the elite has to make up a load of hooey about how clever they are. They maintain credibility in the eyes of the majority by sheer arrogance, by insisting that they always know best. An interviewer once asked Mrs. Thatcher, "can you think of a time when you were wrong about anything?" She was completely stumped and couldn't answer, because it went so much against the grain for her to admit to having any faults at all.

It's the con merchants who get places in this world, and if somebody's in a high position and getting a luxurious income, chances are they've got it by faking and being extremely cheeky. The only answer is to contradict them and embarrass them as much as possible, but often you find they've got you over a barrel because they've got more power than you, so you need to watch your back if you're going to start shaking them up. It can be tremendous fun though.

I wasn't expecting it but all that ace ventura talk made me want to check it out.

I saw the second movie and hated it soooo much that I never bothered seeing the first.

In all honesty, the clip isn't that funny - and not what I expected.

I thought this 1st Ace Ventura movie was funny. But the second one (I believe its "Ace Ventura When Nature Calls") was gross/disturbing, not funny & the eye thing he did...I couldn't watch b/c eye stuff makes me feel like I'm gonna pass out. Bad eye doctor experiences.

Lots of professionals are inept, that's for damn sure.

On the other hand, a lot of professionals know exactly what they are doing, but they either assume you won't understand the jargon used by their profession, or they don't care what you think of them, so they dumb down their conversation.

Trouble is, unless you've spent a lot of time with someone, you can't tell which group they belong to.

I'm going to have to wonder if the person that diagnosed me was inept in some way.

I gotta laugh, when I went in for Disability, that doctor wrote something up about my AS. They pointed out that I still read books such as the Little House (On the Prairie) and the Bruno and Boots series (By Gordon Korman)...books that she specifically pointed out "These books are intended for children"...as if my interest in them was some sort of anomaly. OH well, at least it helped me get the Disability qualification...

What's wrong with reading children's books? They can be fun! (I'm reading picture books & such for my college major...).

Many people, after getting a little bit of "education" think they are experts.

They act accordingly...must to the dismay of others.

A psychiatrist/psychologist might know their field of study, but I'm more of an expert of what is going on inside of my mind.

A medical doctor might know oodles about how the human body works, but I know when something isn't right.

Nothing worse than a "professional" who is dismissive about your input about your condition.

My theory is that the people who know the most about AS are AS people themselves. An NT doctor can rely only on external observation rather than intuition or internal knowledge of AS; in addition, it is a very complicated subject. I think there are only a few who have really studied it long enough, and met enough AS people over the years to really know what they´re talking about. (Okay, I guess I don´t automatically trust doctors unless they prove themselves trustworthy first).

Don´t know why they "talk out of their asses". Maybe to show their authority, or maybe they really do think they know it all? Though I am much more likely to trust someone who can admit it when they don´t know something.

I´ve studied AS too (it´s my special interest at the moment). But It´s amazing how many stereotypes there are out there.

You forgot the second half of that line.. "and they all stink."

I think. The mental health system is vulnerable.
Because it hasn't been challenged. It hasn't been tested... precisely their power makes them weak.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone took these people down a peg.

I'm really pissed off right now. I just found out that the dr who treated me in the hospital recently said he questioned whether I had AS. Now, he is no expert. Then, my doc said that my two friends with AS that are extraverted can't have AS. I even made a video about how some people with AS are extraverted--doesn't mean always socially appropriate, but does mean extraverted!

It's crazy for these docs to state opinions when they haven't even studied the subject. I, on the other hand, have read book after book, article after article, and made 65 YouTube videos on AS. I've been assessed by three drs who DID have expertise in AS. I'm just angry at the arrogance of the drs.

Because they are expected to provide insight, any insight when they do so.
