I would not like a cure. I find that adapting is the way I can screw with a psych's head and still retain who I am. This way I'm only modifying the things that bug me. That said, having managed ot get into the Atuism and Behaviorual Sciences Program.... yeah, the NTs sound pretty much the smae regarding this topic.

Long time no see!! !

SO how many times have we had a topic like this?

Here, let me summarize the debate for you:

Majority: No, I don't want a cure. Autism is cool. Don't you dare make me.
Minority: It's OK for you not to get cured, but my autism is horrible so I want a cure.
Other Minority: So's mine, but I don't want my brain messed with, thanks.
Somebody who's into science: But a theoretical complete cure is impossible!
Everybody else: Ignores them and keeps talking about said theoretical complete cure.
Some guy who's about to get flamed: ...chelation?
Everybody else: *flames*
Some guy with AS: It's OK for an Aspie not to want a cure because we're smart, but those low-functioning people out there need a cure.
Some other guy with regular autism: Yeah, I agree.
Some other other guy with regular autism: No way, it's still the same thing. Disabled people shouldn't have their brains messed with either.
A realist: But a complete cure is impossible! Can't we talk about acceptance instead? It's the cure mindset that's the problem, not the possibility of there ever being a cure.
Another realist: Yeah, but they're going to find a prenatal test sooner or later.
Someone who only read the first post: I don't want a cure! I'd commit suicide first!
Somebody else: Don't you think that's a little hasty?
Some guy who's into science: Dude. It's impossible. Once they find a prenatal test they're never going to look for a cure.
About fifty people: *ignore* *continue yelling that they don't want a cure*

Rinse and repeat about fifty times.

I completely agree with you, heheheh.

May I ask all the people who do want a cure, whether they've ever considered the possibility that whatever they hate about themselves, isn't directly AS-linked and therefore wouldn't go away if AS were cured? And have they also considered that goign from a life of Aspieness to NTness allof a sudden is amajor adjustment, and allt he while the lifetime-NTs will expect you to act just like them because now you're like them?

Callista was spot on, she reminded us that the "would you take the cure thread" is rather past its sell but date. But for what it is worth I would say "No thanks".

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I would gladly do away with my sensory problems, but I don't want to change the way I think.

All I want is something to suppress my social anxiety.

I have come to the conclusion that being an Apie is a gift, not a deficiency.

The doctor who diagnosed me with Asperger's also asked me the same question. My answer back then was "no" and it still is today. I have no desire to conform to normality, and I don't see why anyone else would want to either. Our quirks, flaws, disorders, etc. are what make us different and wonderful. I want people to accept me for who I am, and not change just to make others happy. I admit having Asperger's does make certain things more difficult, but I think that once you overcome those challenges, it makes the results more rewarding.

However, I would like to take a pill that makes me normal for a temporary amount of time. Just to see if being normal really is worth all this fuss over.
