How did you guys get out of the habit of it? I mean, what was done to change it?

Frankly, it was because my life partner kept saying, "Why are you apologizing? What are you apologizing for?" It actually kind of grated on her nerves. You can put a lot of effort into shaking bad habits when it really annoys those that you love.

I used too this all the time but then I learned to not do it so much. I had to work at it and it was hard. Now I am known to my ex for not doing it enough.

I used to be overly-apologetic as a youth, but nowadays I almost never say (or have to say) sorry.

But the one situation I REFUSE to say it is when someone has read me wrong and thinks I did something out of spite/hatred/insensitivity, etc., or out of a motivation that was not present.

I will never apologize unless it was my fault.

I honestly can't remember the last time I did something that would cause someone to ask me to apologize or say I'm sorry - I honestly can't. Maybe three years ago when I had to borrow some money and things got a little strange and the payment was delayed due to circumstances beyond my control- then I did apologize to the person.
