"Come sit down here and eat like a family" (eatin

These days it is rare to hear of families that actually eat together. Ours did for years and years.
I really hate eating together for several reasons.
One, I hate listening to the sound of another person chewing. My youngest brother hates it too. Especially when my mom does it.
Two, I HATE the sound of someone tapping a spoon on the side of a porcelain or glass bowl, or scraping the last bit of whatever from a bowl. It's like nails on chalkboard for me. Similarly, the compulsive plate-cleaner noise (people getting EVERY LITTLE BIT off their plate, even semiliquid material, WITH A FORK OR A KNIFE OR BOTH, and making a HORRID ANNOYING scraping sound while doing it!! !! ARGH!) drives me absolutely insane. Or someone 'wiping' off their knife onto their fork (again, scraping noise ARGH! AND THIS IS CONSIDERED GOOD MANNERS?!)
I also hate it when someone goes "mmmmmmmm" too much or "Mmmmmm, delicious" more than once. Or my dad slurping his soup. And he eats a LOT of soup. Including for breakfast.
I also can't stand dinner conversation. It's like, people are supposed to be eating!
I don't get the whole "don't read at the table" bit. I like to read when I eat to slow myself down. I compulsively eat very quickly if I am not distracted by something like a book magazine or newspaper. My parents and grandparents do not understand this.
Aside from things I can't stand to hear, there's things I can't stand to SEE.
Can't stand to watch old people eat. Especially if they haltingly open their mouth way before the fork ever gets there.
Can't stand to see anyone hold a piece of bread, then put chili or something on the bread, then eat it.
Can't stand to see anyone use bread or any other food to "mop up" their plate.
Can't stand to see a plate that has been fanatically cleaned.
And they wonder why I hide in my room for thanksgiving or christmas or easter dinner...or just dinner in general.

so i am not alone!! !! ! the eating noises drive me insane. ive actually started crying before. i cant get less annoyed. and my dad has ATROCIOUS manners. i mean farting, belching in a you-can-actually-feel-the-smelly-breeze-against-your-face way, smacking lips (i can hear it from 3 rooms away, dead serious), dropping food out of mouth, smearing it on his cheeks...it's repulsive. and whenever i sit at dinner, my parents start questioning me and accusing me of s**t. so i avoid at all costs.
i dont mind the silverware scraping and stuff so much, it's just the human noises. unfortunately very few people actually care to had decent chewing manners.

it's just not how I was brought up. My mum and I were alone when I was growing up and we ate our meals on our knees. Same at my Grandma's. Everyone sitting round the table is like Christmas or something.
yes! this is how me and my ma (and the rest of fam when they were still around) eat/ate. very laid back, put a nightshirt and socks on, sit crosslegged on the floor or on a little table at the couch and eat and watch tv. or i eat off a tray on my lap at the comp. neither of us cares. it's all very animal-den like and that's the way i like it.
cannot STAND eating at "other people's" houses.
