Its kind of possible. Depression will cause someone to mimic some of the traits such as lack of eye contact, not laughing at jokes, lack of empathy and caring, speaking in monotone. Anxiety can account for some social issues. If some of these things go on for long enough the person will show a few other traits of AS due to lack of experience/self-confidence.

But like someone said, just look at what the person is like without the depression and its probably easier to tell.

The depression and anxiety were identified in me first, but the doctors were never able to understand or explain their roots. It wasn't until the discussion about ASDs that begun to unravel the situation... the self-loathing, the diminished self-image, the uncertainty and inability to cope with seemingly minor things, all began to have a sense of context. I don't think it is a misdiagnosis, but these things tend to co-exist and even spawn from the spectrum experience.

Exactly.

I had actual depression. I got rid of it with antidepressants.

I believe depression can be caused by circumstances stemming from AS.

Same here, regarding both sentences. I think depression is a fairly common side-effect of the alienation that AS can cause. Anti-depressants don't attck the root cause of the problem, but they cxan be helpful in terms of dealing with the most debilitating symptoms.
