I'm curious about why other people would stim, and how it impacts them. So, in keeping this short, how do you stim, and what does it do for you?

I make bird noises & beat box all day & I twirl my hair constantly.

To be honest I have no idea why I do it...

I recall when I started beat boxing was when I heard this particular song which was like hearing Bach if he was a percussionist!

I pace-- a lot. It's the worst when I'm on the phone, though. I pace even faster when I'm talking.

I also tap my knees together when I sit, and I wiggle my feet when I'm in bed.

There was one time I was seated behind a lady at a theatre. It was a play, and I was not only seated behind her, but a few feet above, as well.

I was tapping my knees together, not thinking about it. Then, this lady turns around in her seat, grabs my knees and says, "Please stop," politely.

I stopped, but for the duration of the play, I was concentrating on staying still. It sucked.

I've had a bad habit of tapping bones against other hard surfaces, whether it's more bone or a table, etc. It would drive people insane, but luckily I've broken that habit.

Most of the time it seems my stims are subtle enough that nobody else notices them. For example, I rock, but very gently, enough so that most people can't tell that I'm doing it.

Where did you get the bones from? It's not like you find bones lying around everywhere...

I was trying to figure out if they meant "bones" like dominoes (some call them that at times)... or chicken bones, or just knuckles... lol.

every type of stim u can think of i do lol, seriously, flap, rock, bite, spin, bounce, hitting self, twisting fingers, clicking tongue, swinging leg, etc etc etc, can go on all day. Stimming is a huge part of my life, if not redirected or directed to do antyhing ill jus stim all day long, and self injury myself to gain stimulation as well. I do it because it helps me stay calm and focused, i feel its apart of me that i need to do it, but on the other hand, i also want to do it, i think that makes sense lol. Wherever i am i stim, doesnt matter, who is near me or who isnt, or where i am or where im not lol ok that one def made no sense haha. i think i answered ur quesiton i hope so.

Wiggling my feet, listening to the same songs over and over, touching walls or "jumping" with my hands along fences etc, twirling my hair or otherwise keeping my hands busy - doodling, tapping, playing with things, scratching, tearing stuff apart etc.

It's always seemed normal to me, but what surprised me was what happened when I couldn't do it, at my first practical driving lesson. After a little while I was getting irritated, unfocused and itchy. And when I tried to itch the instructor told me to keep my hands on the wheel... moments later I pulled over, it was just too stressing.

I move my right leg a lot.. different from jiggling it, it's slower than that. I don't know what it does for me. It just feels better than not doing it. Sometimes it feels reeeaaally good, like a massage. But the left leg never feels the need. I do it so often that when I walk for a long time, my left leg gets tired first because it gets so much less exercise. XD XD

I also chew on stuff a lot. That's more if I'm excited though. I like chewing on plastic bottles. They're kind of big though, it's hard to fit them in my mouth, hehe.;

I've learned to not stim or minimize my stimming in public, but I doubt I'm always fully aware of all the stimming I'm doing.

When I'm by myself I flap my arms and rock back and forth. I've also recently added a very satisfying popping noise I make with my lips to the stimming. I'll also look for patterns on things, either physical patterns I can touch or visual patterns I can look at. I have this wonderful blanket on my bed now that has what appears to be a regular block pattern at first, but when you look very closely at it you can see lots of interlocking slightly differently colored lines, like this: \\\///\\\/// It's very satisfying to stare at it and follow the pattern. If I'm way way overstimulated, I hide my head under the pillow and rub my legs against the fabric of the sheets on the bed. My bed is a huge comfort zone for me; it's where most of my stimming takes place.

When I'm in public, I sometimes rock slightly from side to side (I've found it's more acceptable than back and forth), fiddle with a small object in my hands, and if I have my cane with me I tap or twirl it.

Why? To stimulate nerve endings so lovely chemicals are released in my brain same as everyone else.

What? I just never stop moving but when i'm stressed or excited there's pacing, vigorously rubbing my head when i've short hair or runninh my fingers through my hair when it's long. Tapping or drumming on things. Constantly itching and scratching. Can't stop dancing if musics on. Slight rocking every now and then. Moving legs and feet, curling and crossing toes. Cracking knucklesA million things I just do without noticing.
Always drinking or otherwise doing something with my hands, if it involves my mouth even better. Oh and I've been grinding my teeth lately which is awful.
