I am diagnosed with ADHD- Inattentive Type, and I do pretty much fit all the diagnostic criteria for this condition. I'm not diagnosed with AS, however that doesn't mean, much as all my evaluations took place before AS was added to the DSM. In addition to having a degree in Special Education, I have also done extensive reading and soul searching on the topic of AS, and have concluded that I pretty much definitely have AS as well. I have traits that really can't be explained by anything else, and I definitely fit the criteria for AS. So, yes, I have both.
I'm not going to go on too long, as I have a tendency to write too much and kill threads, but I will give an example of one way this particular combination affects my life. I'm very organized and obsessive about certain things, like scheduling, deadlines and punctuality. I'll seriously have a meltdown if I'm running late.
However, organizing my physical space is a whole other story. I basically just can't bring myself to do anything on that regard, and my apartment is truly frightening.
Regarding the DSM, I believe there have been cases involving ADHD and AS co-occurring since the last edition was released. I remember reading that somewhere, though my mind is blanking on the source at the moment. In any case, I think that the next edition of the DSM will indicate that these conditions can co-occur.
