do Aspies detect/appreciate empathy from others?

i dont know if i am aspie or not, but i do appreciate and detect genuine empathy/sympathy. luckily it's one of those things that is easy to spot fake. empathetic people are really amazing. and i love when people genuinly try to understand.

I do not expect or need empathy from others. If someone expresses it, thanks, if not, thanks for not doing it. Because some appreciative response is expected in exchange, I actually prefer people to mind their own business and leave my problems to me.

Another problem is that most of the time empathy is either fake or the result of an automatic response by NT wiring, just like sneezing in response to an itch in the nose. Appreciating something like that sounds ridiculous to me.

I'll act along, but the whole thing has the same level of desirability as fixing a clogged drain in a bathroom.
