and poopy, you def. had special treatment!

I never really had special treatment until recently. People thought I was intelligent but obviously wasn't willing to apply myself or something like that. I was diagnosed until I was 14 though and now the difference in the way I'm treated is extremely apparent. It's almost annoying now.

I'm quite good with numbers but nothing like Charlie Epps in 'Numbers'.

I used to derive trig equations from first principles using De Moivre's Theorum in exams, just so I wouldn't finish too early (we weren't allowed to leave before the end of the exam)

It's funny looking back now but here's my line for the week

I thought the square root of -1 (i) was entirely sensible and understandable, but I still haven't worked out the social stuff with people and it isnt easy to understand either


I thought that most of my class were just stupid.........and they knew that I thought that.

They thought I was weird but............I didn't know that I was weird but I knew that they didn't like me

I'm very well aware of thinking the rest of you class is stupid, Gaia knows mine was ret*d. And, like you, they all knew I thought them stupid. I wasn't into math the way you seem to be though. It's not difficult, but I find it boring. Science is what I enjoyed.

Other than (most) of my teachers treating me like intellectual equals (the one and ONLY thing I enjoyed about school) I didn't have any special treatment. Actually, I did get to sleep often in class, though that was probably because the teachers knew I knew what they were teaching, not from special treatment I think.

i wasnt very good at school. i did enjoy science, though i didnt know any considerable amount on it.
i had always been obsessed with reptiles, though, and when i was around 9, and my friend got me a reptile magazine, and i joined a reptile forum, the passion became a scarily deep knowledge of them....
i wasnt too academic though. i liked spending time alone in the forest..."hunting" pretending i was a dinosaur by myself. i remember i spent like, 70% of my time as a dinosaur. i liked drawing diagrams of the creatures i made up, and i liked writing their characteristics and drawing their organs and stuff...all my made up animals were pretty down to earth, i remember being pissed when my friends said they're animals they made up had foot long fangs or things of the nature...id think: that's so stupid! it wouldnt be able to open its mouth and grasp prey"

I believe I didn't get in as much trouble as I could have. However, I believe I got special treatment, because I was "rescued" from a bad situation.

At 6, I repeatedly followed a girl around in my class to bite her braid. It was sensory seeking, and I could not explain to the teachers why I did it. I did not get detention for it, though, despite doing it often.

Spazzer, reptiles are quite fascinating, though I only studied the Komodo, the Gila monster, and almost all in the serpentes family. The deadly ones are always more fascinating to me for some reason. I did have a gecko and a chameleon when I was younger along with several snakes. The gecko was a nasty lil bugger and mean as hell, the chameleon was chill and most of my snakes (cept my tree boa) were active and friendly (inasmuch as snakes can be).

EDIT: And reptiles can have extremely long fangs... as long as they fold like most every pit viper species

My parents, being rigid Aspies themselves, do not believe in getting treatment or special help just because a kid is miserable, friendless and unable to cope.

In hindsight I'm pretty sure I received special treatment because I was allowed to do things other kids were not allowed to do, such as tutor other kids starting in second grade and not being forced to participate in group activities. I also got in fights and was never punished; I would be sent to the principle's office in grade school to talk (at least once a week), but only because my teachers didn't know what to do with me. I wasn't diagnosed as a child, attended a very poor school and was raised with one parent who never cared about my schoolwork. These factors contributed to a great deal of frustration amongst my teachers (and me!), who always seemed exasperated with me and thus mostly ignored my odd behavior. My intelligence saved me though. I often wonder what would have happened to me if I never excelled in school.


By the way, this is my first post. Its quite nice to read comments that reflect my experiences.

I then I would basically be the only one in the school who had a speech and language therpist session (known as special time) in school for my behaviour difficultites and social awkardness. I had it every science lesson. It seemed like a special treatment to me. I had so many doctor appointments and stuff... and was transferred to another school where i was treated so much better, its only now I seemed to have realised now i was treated differently from an ordinary kid would of been.
The teachers thought i was intelligent enough to take a mainstream course in college.
