I got 22...I tried to look at the picture before even looking at the options and was quite surprised by how accurate I was.

No. I looked at the results on a paper I downloaded. While the AS scores were lower on average than the NT scores the AS distribution also had a much bigger spread than the NT distribution.

Same score I got. Stupid test anyway. I had to make guesses.

23 - but quite surprised to have scored that high! I found the test much more difficult than I would have expected.

I've done this test too many times now. It would be nice if there was another similar test online, but with a different set of faces. I think I got 28 or so the first time I took the test but now with practice I scored 34 (there's still 2 left that I can't honestly comprehend why the correct answer is what it is no matter how long I stare at the eyes).

30.
at age 47.

Yes, one can train oneself to get better at facial expression reading. That is why some of us improve on our scores and our ability to read facial expressions, as we get older.

Still, it is a silly old test, as i said in another thread, as it involves the measure of a static skill, which we can become highly adept at. But does that skill easily translate to the real world?

The issue is whether this static skill can then be applied in real life, given that we ASD people struggle with change, the dynamic, and the shifting world and all it entails.

My score was 28. I started missing them at #'s 17, 23, 25, 26, 29, 30, 31, and 36. This test was tiring and my performance deteriorated but some of them were quite hard too.

Average score is between 22 and 30. If you have ASD, you might have difficulties understanding facial expression.

And did you know you can actually train understanding facial expression?
See this website: Training mind reading

I scored 21 on the test, but I must add that there were some words among the answers that I did not know.

When I was younger (I am not 74) I had some problems with face and body language. But, by purely empirical means, I have learned a set of rules that gives me a reliable guide to expressions and posture. I can now do it pretty well. But a five year old Normal could do it just as well by purely intuitive means.

I scored really high (forget the actual number), but I've been studying faces for a long time. My problem remains knowing why a person might be expressing an emotion. Are they angry/happy/sad because of me or something else? I too often get this part wrong and it is just as important as recognizing the emotion in the first place. This is why I do much better in one on one situations with people I've known for a long time. It is much more likely that what they are expressing is directly related to our interactions at that moment.

I got a 25. I honestly just guessed at half of them. I found it really hard to describe those sets of eyes using "big" adjectives like the ones listed. Of course I can tell if someone is really angry or sad or totally bored, but in-between stuff is quite difficult. It would have been easier if it weren't just eyes and whole faces instead.
