Do you try not to give up?
I don't do social. I've tried especially when I was at school or working but I always tend to be on the outside looking in. The only times I've ever been kind of involved in social situations is when I've been drunk. I don't like the taste of alchol but when I've been forced into social gatherings where people are drinking I've drunk it anyway to try and feel that included feeling everyone else gets. I know its not healthy to drink to excess and I have epilepsy so its especially bad for me but it's all thats ever worked for me. I've only ever done it a few times and for the last few years I haven't done it at all and have decided its best not to drink at all (alcohol that is). I don't think I can say I've given up socialising as I don't think I ever started. Never dated rarely went out with friends, if you could call them that, and don't get on with most of my family. I'm the same age as the OP and I think from what was written were both women so this post hits home for me.
