I understand this issue. Tho has anyone blatently said 'I understand the joke, I just don't find it funny'

yes, but it doesn't keep people from thinking you're a stick in the mud, or strange.

i think i over-laugh when i actually do think something is funny as a way of compensating, and because so many things aren't funny to me, i have an excess buildup of unexpressed laughter that explodes at inappropriate times. and then i can't stop. i laugh till i'm crying.

One of the areas that I seems pretty aspie. I don't get a lot of jokes very well.

I often am told that I do not get jokes. I do find certain things humorous but not the "jokes" that people commonly assert, these jokes that may be at my expense.

This is somewhat of a cultural thing where I live, New York-- rough talk, friendly insults  and if you reply negatively/defensively to their "joke" the jokester usually says: "I'm just kidding man, can't you take a joke?" It's annoying and rude in my opinion.

Perhaps they are really the ones with the problem and not me.
