I think that we get a little too hung up on traits, characteristics and presentations. Almost every single person I know has some Aspie traits--some more than others. The issue is not traits, but the underlying neurophysiology from which the traits spring.

From my perspective (and this is as a layperson, whose experience with AS is entirely personal and anecdotal), the defining feature of ASDs is deficit in processing social information. Mine manifests with poor eye contact, and unusual vocal dynamics, other Aspies will manifest in different ways--but we all have the deficit.

Meanwhile, a person who has every Aspie trait in the book, but does not display the deficit in processing social information will have to look elsewhere for an explanation.

So I disagree with the premise of, "in every person is an autistic." But I entirely agree with, "every person displays some autistic traits," for whatever that's worth.

Heres an ignorant statement from my dad. "Autists are artists and artists are autists". I'm autistic but I'm not very artistic.

I think the most ignorant statement of all time would be "Autism doesn't exist, they're just faking it to get attention."

Are you people serious, Thats the worst statements you can muster... Please tell me you have heard worse... because if you havN'T, turn the page... cause this might upset you.

"Bi#ch mother fu%ker."

or

"Dirty Hoe slut, tramp, bit#ch Hoe" (your going to have trouble turning the cheek to this one)

are just a quick couple of UNIVERSALLY offensive statements.

I have heard thousands of awful ways to be offensive. . .

An aspies got to do what an aspies got to do folks.

Drive it right back home.

Some really nasty sounding stuff can often be the start of a playful interaction if you learn how to respond.

But if the Antagonist is working hard to cut my pride out, here is a way I might respond.

Stare deep into their dull eyes, (there is no time like now to show them whats in yours)

"What are you?. . . Who do you know?... Who?... You don't wan't to know me, Just take it easy, I'm F#cken Crazy". AS Just Flaring, Leaning Right into their space, then turn my back and walk away calmly.

Your AS power of senses will give you a bulging pocket full of material to destroy the aggressor's self esteem if you can train yourself to remain calm."

People will try to hurt us because we are different, and different makes NT's nervous, these people don't mean much other than fear embodied.

Other 'bigger' people will embrace us for hour integrity and 'super powers'.

Others are neutral but sometimes they might say something that is offensive, but really they didn't understand the literal meaning of what they said and meant something more obscure and non offensive.

"A little autist in everyone" is more or less unimportant to me. . .

It is what it is.

Ohmygod. Yes. The attention thing. UGH I HATE that.

People at school always say that about my aspie friend, i get so pissed at them.
Like "I think he just wants attention." which proves they know absolutely nothing about people like him or me.
The statement "they're just doing that for attention" is basically implying that the person saying it knows nothing about the person's condition or disability, or that they think the person is weird, or that they are ignorant.
It's stupid. It's so freaking stupid.

I hear people say that at school about my friend and I want to like just tell them off.
But what you said. "Autism doesn't exist, they're just faking it to get attention."

I think that would be a lot worse. I don't want there to me an NT in me, the way that they've treated me, my whole entire life and the way that my NT family members are still treating me.

We here complain when people stereotype autistics. Now you're stereotyping NTs. Most of us have suffered at the hand of the NTs you describe, but they're not all like that...

Also bigblock, those statements don't offend me. If (more like when) someone was to say that to me, I would likely laugh at their uncreativity. Though your described way of dealing with an "antagonist"... Man I should try that some time. That would freak the hell out of the person.

Erm... I guess what CockneyRebel COULD have said as to not stereotype NT's but still be able to express disapprobation of the "ignorant statement" I suggested couldve maybe be something like that statement is implying that autistics can just become normal or they are faking their symptoms or something, like how everyone is normal at heart or is able to act normal.

I know very few autistic drawers, I want them to stop being so ignorant.

I personally don't like the term autist. It makes it sound like someone has been practicing autism all of their life (like an artist, dentist, orthodontist).

More than just a dash topic

Bolded for truth

hitler and company decided "who is a Jew". There is something somewhat unsettling about embracing an "inner autist" for autism is more than the sum of the parts that "define" it.

Well it sure is true in my family and extended family....If you think of all that Autism is made up of. Think of how many people you know who do not have something, some special need. I think there are a lot less NT people out there than we realize.

I think that medicine is still medieval, and psychiatry is theory, and people need to stop worrying so much about others behaviour and worry more about being a good person in general.

Also, it's kind of like saying, "there lives a diabetic in everyone" or "there lives a black person in everyone". Well, actually, no.
