I tend to use over-long sentences and convoluted grammar. Despite having above average word comprehension I often have difficulty expressing myself in words. The problem is that I'm an extreme visual thinker and expressing myself in words (even in English) is like trying to express myself in Klingon.

Regrettably, my biggest problems with grammar and usage are others' errors. Some particular things that bring out my inner grammar-nazi:

1) Using, "verbal," in place of, "oral." Frequently in my line of work people will refer to, "an verbal briefing." Sometime I would love to be a fly on the wall to see our Deputy Minister give the Minister a non-verbal briefing. Perhaps an interpretive dance to bring the Minister up to date on the status of budget initiatives? Charades to provide information about the Department's Management Accountability Framework?

2) Using, "gender," in place of, "sex." Gender is a grammatical description of nouns, sex is a biological and psychological description of organisms (in which there is sexual dichotomy). As I say to my friends, "Nouns have gender; people have sex!"

3) Modifying the word, "unique." Uniqueness is an absolute state. Something is either unique, or it is not. I cannot be, "somewhat unique."

[/rant]

That being said, I do try to control my reactions--but I am not always successful.

My natural aptitude is in this area. I learned to read and write when I was two and a half.

I don't have any formal education to speak of really, so deal with it!

I find it really difficult to write essays that anybody can understand fully. If i spend a very long time rewriting all my sentences it is possible but i have only done one essay that was commended for it's flow and readability.

I have a very difficult time with grammar and articulating a message in a way that makes sense to people. I read an article about Semantic Pragmatic Disorder and it pretty much describes the difficulties I have.

It is this one aspect that I find frustrating especially while it is hard enough to communicate verbally.

when I speak I tend to accidentally regularize irregular verbs a lot more often than NTs do. I'll often say "flied", "throwed", etc.

No, I have no difficulties with the English language. I was reading, writing and spelling at Grade 8 level before I went to kindergarten. The school board thought I was some kind of genius, and they devised a program in which I would take grades 3, 4 & 5 in two years. After that, there was no followup, and I was totally lost by Grade 6, where I was two years younger than my peers. That's when my troubles began, and my life went downhill from there. I was never a genius. I could just read and spell, that's all. And I had AS, which wasn't even known at the time.

I got A in spelling and grammar all through public school. It was the only subject I got As in.

As some of you have mentioned, I have a tendency to be a spelling and grammar nazi. I don't bother people about it, but seeing misspelled and misused words makes me cringe.

I suppose it's a bonus, however small, that I have never used spell-check in any program.

Me has the well grammar's! (XD)

I only have a problem with other people's incorrect usage of English and grammar! Grammar is one of the things I enjoy the most, actually. I am very interested in languages, the definition of words, and syntax (and consequently, computer programming).

Many people misuse words and don't even get me started on grammar and punctuation. These things are very important to me, although they do not appear to be so to others.

(Although, somewhat ironically, one area of deviation from some of the above posters, I can't spell worth a damn.)

It's good we notice our grammar --- nowadays, people just ignore grammar...

And combine weird or misspelt words together, ironically, to... impress?

I can hardly say for th english language (no correction...). For my native language (french) though I have difficulty with grammar (french grammar is hell :pale: ) conjugaison and spelling. I don't have problem problem with sentence structure and ponctuation though, somehow I just got a great instinct for that.

I've struggled with english and grammar for a long time. I have trouble expanding my word choice and sentence structure which makes most of my posts from what you see here, ret*d.

I recently found an article about pragmatic language impairments which is associated with asperers. It pretty much defines most of what I struggle in.
